Great Grandfather Edmund

Freer Family
« on: Thursday 06 August 09 21:08 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I would really appreciate some help with this family.  I recently discovered that my grandfather's brother served in the Lincolnshire Regiment in WW1, was injured, returned to the UK after 12 months as POW, and died as a result of his wounds.  He is remembered on the War Memorial in Metheringham and buried in the cemetary there.  His name is Joseph Freer Wright and I wondered where the Freer came from.

His father was Charles Wright born 1858, Barnoldby le beck.  His grandparents were Richard Stark Wright and Elizabeth Freer.  I found their marriage, June 1840 Glanford Brigg, on Free BMD.

I can't find her birth or any possible siblings and am not sure where to start looking for her parents.

Can anyone help with the information or point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

The best thing to do would be to get hold of the marriage certificate for this marriage.  It should contain information about her father  and the witnesses caN also be helpfully related on occasions.  My great grandfather also came from the Metheringham area and served in the Lincs reg in WW1.  They probably knew each other!

Thanks for the advice Ammonite.  I am trying to save some pennies, but I think on this occasion the certificate may prove useful.

Geoff - thankyou.  At least you found a few names!  I scoured Ancestry and couldn't see anything that looked hopeful, plus I hadn't thought about the spelling!!  Mary could be her mother.  Do you think the two Marys could be the same person?

Thanks for the link.  I noticed a Thomas Freer marriage in 1844, so that could be a brother.  I have another North Lincolnshire family, so will have a good look through it over the weekend.

I would think the burials would be the people I found in the census.

Thomas FREER was "son of Thomas".

Linnet

I try and do it all for as cheaply as possible as there would be so many areas otherwise that you could pend money on.  The Free reg sites and their counterparts FreeBMD and FreeCe, are so good for this but the trouble is waiting for the records!   The other site is brilliant as well.
