ALEXANDER YETTS and CATHERIN STEINSONE 1659
« on: Friday 07 August 09 17:55 UTC (UK) »

Hello, I am looking for information about Alexander Yetts and Catherin Steinsone married 21 July 1659 in Cramond Parish, Midlothian.  My research is on the Cates family. I have Alexander Cates married to Catherin Steinsone 8 June 1661.  Is there some confusion here.  Please help.  Thank you, John Cates

Hi John

The only entry showing on Scotland's People is that for Alexander Yetts and catherine Steinsone in Cramond 1659. There is no sign of a marriage anywhere in Scotland for an Alexander Cates in 1661 I'm afraid (soundex on, no bride's name entered). Where did you get this marriage date for Alex Cates?

I have just looked at the IGI, I see the confusion.

Alexander Cates christening 8th June 1661, Cramond.
Parents Alexander Cates and Cathrin Steinsone

The marriage entry under Yetts may well be the one for your family, just mistranscribed or misheard. I would view the original entry on SP if I were you just to check. There was another hit in 1659 for a female Steinson in Cramond which could be a Banns entry. It might have a different name.

Hope this helps
