« on: Friday 07 August 09 18:23 UTC (UK) »

Hi
Can anyone help me with the birth place of Jemima Coleman age 59 who appears on 1851
census lodging along with her husband John with John Thomas at 33 Portland Place, Cleveland Road
Wolverhampton.
I know she was christened in Stafford but the census copy I saw gave place of birth as Huh?? Hill
has anyone any suggestions please.

regards
robsdad

Cheers PastMaster
Meton does not ring a bell with me.
Looking at your image,
Do you or anybody know if there is an Acton Hill in the Stafford area?

Hi both  Smiley

I agree it looks like Acton Hill - street map does show one Acton Hill in Staffordshire, near Acton Trussell

Hi Tati & linell
Thanks for your input, - very interesting
Think Tati's Acton Hill looks favorite as Jemima's family the Hortons have strong
connections with Baswich which is not a million miles away from Acton Trussel
I will try and look at street map and contact that locality to attempt to confirm
your ideas.

Kindest regards

Hi Robsdad, Coton is a lot nearer to Baswich than Acton Trussel.  Mind you, we shouldn't let modern ideas of distance colour our judgement.  I have found that our Ancestors would think nothing of walking 20 miles a day, so yes anything is possible.  Best Wishes from Linell.

Hi linell,
Agreed but found a Jemima Coleman on 1861 at 141 Yates Street, Aston age 70
b. Staffs - Acton or Aston   -  have you any thoughts ?
Again birth place difficult to read on the image I saw.

Jemima's second husband John was b. Perry Barr see ( 1851) and she married him in
1847 St. Peters Wolves. But I'm having trouble with the 'Mother in Law' tag on 1861
as I cannot connect the George and Ann Spencer residing at the same address to Jemima.
Cannot yet find John Coleman ( Malt-maker ) on 1841 with maybe his first wife

Again I think it says Acton in 1861

Jemima isn't staying with the Spencers in 1861 as far as I can tell - she's still in the same household as James and Harriet Thomas.

Hi Tati
Not able to see 1861 for a while, any chance of a brief run down of entry
Are you saying I was looking at the wrong house in Aston ?

I think you were placing Jemima in the neighbour's house

1861
RG9/2184 36 29
Aston, Warwickshire
Yates St

John Thomas, head, 32, Edge Tool Grinder, b. Staffs Wolverhampton
Harriett, wife, 32, b. do.
James T, son, 10, scholar, b. do.
Selena, dau, 6, scholar, b. War Birmingham
Georgena, dau, 4, scholar, b. do.
John, son, 21 mo, b. do.
Jemima Coleman, mother in law, mar, 70, b. Staffs Acton

Next door (different schedule), a George and Ann Spencer with their children.
