Hello Hippie, Welcome to Rootschat  Smiley

What other information is on the marriage cert, father's name and occupation, Henry's occupation & address, witness names etc

Have you been able to find him in any census?

Ages given on certs can vary sometimes, although a 13-year difference is a bit much!

Henry Taylors father was deceased on marr cert , the son henry was a flinter and lived  at Gilsegate Durham City when married I think Henry (senior ) was born in co durham or Northumberlan around 1821 and married Christina Robson at South Shields

Think this may be Elizabeth, going by 1911 census index there is a Henry aged 48 with an Elizabeth aged 31, though there is also a son George aged 7 (which means he would be born before their marriage in 1908) and a baby daughter George (name must be a mistake)

Did the marriage cert give Elizabeth's father's name as George occupation Miner?

RG13 Piece 4676 Folio 64 Page 29
Close Row, Framwellgate Moor, Durham
VASEY
George  head m 54 Coal Miner Shifter
Ellen       wife  m 52
Elizabeth dau  s  21
Annie        "     s  19
George R  son    15  Colliery Bell Boy
Jennet POWELL granddau 3 months
all born Framwellgate Moor

Are you sure Henry's age is given as 29 on the marriage cert, Hippie, and were the witness names Vasey or Taylor, they may be relatives and help place Henry & Elizabeth in earlier census

marriage registration Jun 1850     Gateshead    24   169
ROBSON  Christiana   and on same page  Henry  TAYLOR

1881 census can be seen free here
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=5538&indiv=try&db=uki1881&h=4568676
Father Henry is a cartman b. 1820 Morpeth.

You would need your Henry's birth cert for confirmation that these are his parents, and in census so far his d.o.b. is given as about 1869
In Dec Quarter 1868  there are two Henrys, one Durham, one South Shields which covers Jarrow
TAYLOR    Henry       Durham    10a   276
TAYLOR    Henry       S. Shields  10a 642  -   this one looks the most likely birth registration for the Henry in these census, but whether he is your Henry is not proved really unless you can confirm by knowing the names of any of his brothers or sisters - this one born Jarrow only has sisters

The 1911 census would be the best thing to look at, to confirm Henry's age and birthplace and occupation

Just in case it's correct, I'll post the 1871 census for the family found so far:

To Barbara,
Thank you so oooooo much for youy help.

Elizabeths father was george and they lived as you sited, her age on the marr cert is 28 years. My grandfather was born 1903 before their marr in 1908. The witnesses were neither of the names suggested, I also found info via the census and have come to the conclusion that Henry senior born at Black boy Northumberlan and married Christina are relatives, as no other Henry has a father by the same name that matches my search.
Also Im new to computors and was wowed by the info I recieved  it was like Christmas.

Happy Christmas then, Leo  Smiley

Information can certainly be found very quickly on the Internet, unlike when I started research and had to visit record offices and look at records on microfilm and fiche machines.

If you're sure this is your family would you like earlier census then, or do you have access yourself?

I think you need a couple of certificates to be sure.  The 1911 census would be a big help too, as I said earlier
http://www.1911census.co.uk/

Then if you need help with earlier census please do come back and ask.  Smiley

Hi Leo,

Just to make clear, are you looking for descendants of George and Violet?  Not allowed to mention living relatives in case of upsetting anyone living

I think I gave you the census details for George and his parents the other day:
