Melbourne Derbyshire, William Bartram
« on: Saturday 08 August 09 19:57 UTC (UK) »

Hi, I am trying to find the parents of William Bartram born in Melbourne Derbyshire about 1814. I know his spouse was Elizabeth and they had about 7 children. They lived in High Street Derby and he was a coal dealer. Any information would be great or any ideas of where to go next! Thankyou

Hi,

There is an extracted record on the IGI of a baptism on 13 October 1812 at the Baptist Church, Melbourne.  No father's name is listed but the mother is Hannah.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jemma

Found this information  in the bastardy bond sections on this site

http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/BastardyM-R.htm#MELBOURNE

Hannah BARTRUM single.  William MATTHEW Stanton by Bridge 1812

You can write to to get a copy of the bond

Have you already got this

William Bartram m Elizabeth Cox 19 April 1835 at Melbourne.

What census information have you got ? He was a gardener in 1861 and living in Melbourne.

Hi, thankyou for your response.

All I have is: Birth 1814 Melbourne Derbyshire.

1851 (age 37) melbourne, coal dealer

1861 (age 47) melbourne, garden lab.

He had: charlotte, jane, william, sarah, john, lewis.

Thats all I have! Do you think that is a possibility that hannah is his mother?

Hi Jemma

I would say yes that Hannah was his mother.  There is a death reg -

William Bartram aged 55 March Q 1868 Shardlow 7b 217.

Shardlow is the registration district for Melbourne.

I think it would be worth contacting Mike Spencer on that site and ordering a copy of the bond. Hopefully it will give you lots more information.
