I am looking for William Stalla [probable middle initial K.] in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses. He was born about 1844 in Brooklyn, NY. His father, Robert Stalla, was born in England and his mother, Jane Logan, was born in Scotland.
I have found him in earlier censuses under various surnames:
1850 - Stalla, with his parents in Brooklyn, NY 1860 - Staley, with his cousin Anthony Logan in Medina County, Ohio 1870 - Stuller, with his wife Margaret in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1880 - Stalla, with his wife and daughter Ida in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I have been unable to find him or his wife or daughter under any surname variant after 1880.

Thanks, Tati. I was aware of the 1900 and 1920 census entries with surname Stella. I guess that I was hoping that somebody might come up with something better, but those are the best candidates I have found.
There seem to be a lot of discrepancies in 1900 - mother’s first name, age, age at marriage, birth place of her parents, daughter’s first initial looks like J.
The 1920 census does seem pretty good.
What do you think, should I accept tthem? Of all the Stallas, William is the only one I’ve been able to trace at all. His brother Joseph has disappeared and the sisters all seem to have married or died without a trace. So I was hoping to get somewhere with William and Ida.

I have never come up with anything good in 1910, either. I'll go back to that census again today and see if I can dig something out.
As regards Ida Stella in the 1920 census, what do you think her status as attaché means?

Thanks. This topic is now completed. I have found William's death in 1898 at FamilySearch, Philadelphia death records. Sorry, I hadn't previously noticed that these records were available at FamilySearch. My only excuse is that I seldom need Pennsylvania records.
