Marriages - Malton District - Nendick family Flaxton.
« on: Sunday 09 August 09 12:30 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for the surname of Elizabeth who married Richard Nendick in Malton District SQ 1864    cert. 9d 527
Although on the 1911 census Richard is 'married' there is no mention of his wife, or his son, who I am eager to find as he is Nora's father.
I am interested in any of this family;
Hilda Nendick b. 1899 g.daughter.  Lily Nendick b 1878 daughter, Nora Nendick b 1890 g,daughter.
or anything about the Nendicks in Flaxton around this time.
They lived at The Gate House, Flaxon.
If you can help in any way I would be very pleased. Thanks in anticipation.
Marion.

Hi

Welcome to rootschat  Grin

As there is only one Elizabeth listed on freebmd on this marriage I would imagine it is Elizabeth Bowes.  http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
A childrens birth certificate or the marriage certificate of Richard and Elizabeth is the only way to be 100% sure.

I just had a look at the censuses for Richard and family and I can't see a son who might be Norah's father - his first son seems to have been Thomas born ca. 1881 - are you sure Norah wasn't the daughter of one of Richard and Elizabeth's numerous daughters?  Smiley

(can post earlier census details for the family if needed)

Although the 1901 census shows Richard as married, I believe he was already widowed at the time. There's a likely death registration:

Elizabeth Nendick age 52
Sep 1896 York 9d 53

Tati, you are magic!
Thanks for the info. I have been searching for ages and you have found so much.
I could not find a census with any of the children of Richard and Elizabeth other than Lily on the 1901 so I really would appreciate any information on those and Thomas, plus any others - completely new to me. Which census did you find the family on?
Wow that's great. truly grateful

Tati,
Many many thanks for those - sorry to keep you so busy, but really do appreciate your help. the 'NER' Gatehouse explains alot. He was obviously on the crossing gates, rather than as I had thought, house called The gate House. Must try to visit and see if it is still there. Thanks.

Not sure where Thomas William is hiding in 1901 but he was only 10 when Norah was born therefore I think we can safely rule him out as being the father.

Now maybe they did have a son who for some reason doesn't appear in the census with them - to find out I really think you have to purchase Norah's birth cert (if Norah is the person you are primarily interested in):

Jun 1890 York 9d 67
Norah Nendick

Among the possible mothers:

Ann Nendick seems to marry a David Bogg before Norah's birth (Sep 1888, Malton district) = I think we can rule her out

Sophia Nendick is in service at Crambe in 1891. She goes on to marry a Thomas Leonard in 1894.

Jane Nendick is still unmarried in 1901 (staying with Sophia)

Lucy Mary Nendick (transcribed as Mary M in 1881) is in service at Stittenham in 1891 and goes on to marry a James Halliday in 1895.

Kate Nendick goes on to marry an Edmund Brown in 1898

Hi again
Sorry for delay but I have had problems with my pc - it froze due to unlimited number of pop ups adverts!!
Back safe and 'clean' (Do you get these on this site?)
So it looks as though Nora could be either Jane or Lucy's daughter.  Hmm.
It doesn't look as if you got my last reply either! I sent it twice but with all the problems it obviously didn't get through.
I did mention that I had sent for Nora's birth certificate and am waiting. Also that the family had suspicions about Lily's virtues! Perhaps a few others too!
Can't find Richards death up to 1924.
Sorry you didn't get the replies it was quite a long one and I wrote it twice.
Also NER Gate House explains alot as that is the railway crossing house and not just one named The Gate House.
Very very grateful, sorry about my lost replies so frustrating for a beginner and this is such a wonderfuls ite to find.
Thanks for your help, Marion

I don't think you should get pop-ups on this site (except when you receive a new private message)! Something odd happening with your computer there  Tongue

Oh good! Please come back here when Norah's birth cert arrives - we like a follow-up! Cheesy

I see Lily is still with Richard in 1911, a 12 year old Hilda and a 2-year old Bertha are also there - maybe those 2 girls were Lily's then (you mentioned the 1911 census earlier, but I believe what you actually have is the 1901 census?)

Possible death for Richard:

Sep 1918 York 9d 2
Richard Nendick age 81
