John TRAPP
« on: Tuesday 11 August 09 05:27 UTC (UK) »

John Trapp born about 1807 Warminster, Wiltshire. Tried 7th March 1829, transported for life.
Father's name Stephen.
Nephew James and Niece Sarah (Parents: James Trapp and Ann Adlam married 28/09/1840, St Denys Warminster Wiltshire).
Half sister Maria White born 1809, tried 1834 and transported.

Found Marriage;  Thomas White to Sarah Trapp 12th September, 1804, St. Denys, Warminster, Wiltshire, England.
These could be Maria's parents but makes date of birth for John Trapp incorrect.

Any solutions would be gratefully received.

Hi Gumball,

There are some John TRAPPS in Warminster St Denys but don't see any with a father Stephen

TRAPP John 22 Aug 1783 parents John and Jane
TRAP John 16 Apr 1786 parents William and Sarah
TRAPP John 31 Aug 1788 parents William and Sarah
TRAPP John 21 June 1795 parents William and Sarah
TRAPP John 19 March 1798 parents James and Elizabeth
TRAPP John 16 Sep 1807 parents William and Mary

There is a James baptised 6 Mar 1814 to William and Elizabeth (looks like possibly a twin to Sarah)
and one 29 Aug 1787 parents James and Elizabeth

I don't see a baptism for a Maria WHITE to fit. (I do note she was tried in Devon)

This marriage of Thomas WHITE = Sarah TRAPP does list her as previously married.
Only marriage is Warminster with a wife Sarah and we don't have a John born to them.
John TRAPP = Sarah EACOTT 17 Apr 1797
one Stephen marriage
Stephen TRAP = Milliar STEADMAN 25 Mar 1782

Now the marriage of James TRAPP to Ann ADLAM lists his father as William  Huh
William TRAPP = Elizabeth BLAKE 26 Oct 1802
William TRAPP = Betty DREDGE 25 Nov 1793

Sorry I don't see anything else listed. Nothing fits - William and Elizabeth had other children but no John, there was a Stephen baptised to them in 1808.  Cry

WOW!!!! thank you.  It will take some time to digest all of this.

I have just found niece Sarah Trapp born 10.12.1840  Warminster Wiltshire; died 1909 Milton NSW Australia and nephew James Trapp born 23.11.1842 Warminster, Wiltshire; died 1935 Milton NSW Australia.

I think their father is James Trapp born about 1814 Warminster, Wiltshire, died 21.10.1877 Warminster, Wiltshire and his father was William born 1776 Warminster, Wiltshire christened 12.05.1776. (??William born 1777 who married Elizabeth Blake (born 1780) in 1802).  We do know how the dates can vary.

On John Trapp's Death Certificate it stated father Stephen but we know its only as good as the Informant's information which would probably have been his nephew James,  so I'm still open to suggestions.  His birth date I feel is wrong due to the remarrying of his mother to Thomas White in 1804 and birth of his half-sister Maria in 1809.

Thank you for your very quick reply,  I'll work on this information and see if it comes together for me.

Sorry Gumball,

I can't work this out. If William and Elizabeth were James Parents and he was John's brother surely his mother was Elizabeth not Sarah, so who is Sarah TRAPP who married Thomas White? maybe I am missing something - Maria WHITE born 1809 but James TRAPP not born till 1814. This niece and nephew perhaps the relationship came about though Ann ADLAM not James TRAPP.  Undecided I note Maria WHITE was tried in Devon, so I presume you have family lore etc listing her as a half sister to John. I see no baptism listed in Warminster.

I wonder if Stephen Trapp and Milliar Steadman had children  - they married 25/3/1782 but there is no listing of children on Familysearch.
These children could be the missing links.

I have just re-checked Death Certificates for James Trapp and his sister Sarah Hamon nee Trapp,  their parents are listed as James and Ann.

MMM but how is that they are John's niece and nephew, and Maria White his half sister?

I see no John listed to William and Elizabeth and I note you do not provide a date.

I agree with the other dates you mention.

There is also, Jane 2 Sep 1803.

The only birth I see to a Stephen (and Anne) is 1835 so would suspect this is probably Williams son born 1808.

John Trapp born 2nd March, 1805, christened 6th March, 1805 to parents William and Elizabeth.  Warminster, Wiltshire, England.

Maria White was sentenced in Devon Assizes but on her transportation papers it states that she is a Native of Wiltshire.
