As this is before Civil Registration (began 1837) it will be a case of looking for a christening in a Parish record (if she was christened)
Have you got her on later censuses, if so whereabouts in Sussex does she say she was born?
Remember to try the IGI on www.familysearch.org too.

Hi Liz
Thanks for your reply, I know she was in Kent in 1841 census in Tenterden workhouse. She is buried in Bromley. I not sure if she was born in Kent or Sussex, as I have had no luck with Kent lookus , I thought I might try Sussex as her husband Edward Manser was from Sussex.
Regards Barbara

Where did the exact date of birth come from?
IGI has a chr for a Harriet Avery who was bn 22 April 1817 Christeing Nov in Rye, parents William and Martha. It is an extracted record. Might be worth a look.

The Harriet Manser in Tenterden workhouse in 1841 was aged "15" (i.e. 15-19, given the rounding rule). She is enumerated as born in Kent. (1841: HO107/476/3/37/3)
On the face of it, this would suggest a birthdate of 1821-1826. If you don't have a birth/baptism record, how do you know she was born on 20 April 1817?
Did she die between the 1841 and 1851 censuses? You mention her burial place but not the date of death.
Anna

Not really, Bromley is in the outskirts of London. However, it is near Tenterden which you mentioned in an earlier post.

Anna Hi Anna, I sent a email regarding admissions to Tenterden got a reply that there are no records before 1900's were probably destroyed. Her death date 15 Mar 1847 Bromley. Barbara

IF the William/Martha one in Rye on the IGI iS your girl, then there are several siblings also christened at the same place, with the same parents' names:
Charlotte 1804 Lucy 1808 Thomas 1810 Henry 1812 Elizabeth 1815 William 1819
(you can get the full details from the link I gave above, did you not check out the iGI?)
Do these names also appear in the family bible? (I see from previous thread on same subject that is where the d-o-b came from)

Ah so it is a Manser family bible, not an Avery. So they wont help confirm/deny that this is the right Avery family then.
