Slater Family in Dodworth

Please has anyone got access to Silkstone parish records and could you have a look for a Slater family?

My 2x Great grandfather John Bower (b.1822) married Mary Slater (c.1824) on 12 February 1850 in Barnsley St George.  They were both of full age.  John was born in Stainborough and Mary came from Dodworth.

I know quite a bit about the Bower family but am really struggling to find anything for certain about the Slaters.  On the Marriage Certificate Mary’s father was John and he was a labourer.

On the IGI I have found a possible Slater family C018812 Silkstone, parents John and Mary Slater with three children.  Benjamin christened 1818, Henry 1821 and Mary 1824.  Can’t find a marriage for John Slater.

Think I’ve got the Slaters in 1841 (transcribed as Slaton) in Dodworth HO 107/1325/10 page 8.  Where are they in 1851?  Do you think I’ve got the right Mary?

Any little bit of info would be much appreciated Smiley

A lot of the 1851 census for this area was badly damaged so you might not find them but I'll see what I can find.

I would say by the information you have given and what I have checked that you have the correct family. I can see Mary in 1851 living in Stainbrough. In 1861 I can see her 2 brothers still living in Dodworth.
I am now looking at the 2 enumeration districts for Dodworth in 1851 the one I have just looked at has 38 pages 95% is unreadable the other 5% has only the odd name ie William or Oxspring but nothing to make any sence over.

I have just done the other enumeration district (31 pages) and its as bad as the first.

Didn't know that the 1851 census for Dodworth was damaged.  That explains a lot Grin

I'm glad you think I am on the right track - I'd more or less given up.  As her brothers were not living with Mum and Dad in 1861 I presume they had passed away sometime between 1850 and 1861.
