Baker family Nottingham
« on: Tuesday 11 August 09 12:28 UTC (UK) »

Soloman BAKER was born 1791 circa.
He worked as a Framework knitter.
Soloman married Elizabeth or Ann.

Children  were:

Solamon BAKER 1811 Oct 27 christened St Marys Church Nottingham.

John BAKER 1817

Richard BAKER 1812 - 1873 Sep in Nottingham aged 61.
(Richard had 8 children - one was Cornelius who also had a son Cornelius b 1876 - my grandfather - who was in the workhousse in the census of 1881)

I am trying to trace back through Richard Baker 1812 and his father Solomon, and generally fill gaps in the line.  Also wanting to know more of Richard born 1867 and John William b 1872

Hi

Where did you get the information that Soloman was born c 1791?

There are a lot more baptisms to Soloman & Elizabeth Baker the first one in 1799 going up to 1824.

I have also found a burial of Soloman Baker 1.4.1834 aged 57.

      Thank you for responding.
I found Richard Baker's christening at St Mary's Church Nottingham:
Date: 1814 01 01
Name: Richard
Father: Solomon Baker
Mother:  Elisabeth
Born: Needle Place
Father's Occupation: Framesmith

I found a Solomon Baker in the Borough Apprentice Records 1724 - 1882 (Extracts  from the card index at Nottinghamshire Archives posted on a website showing :  Whitaker, George - Framesmith (stocking) - Master of Solomon Baker 1791)
1791 must have been the date of his indenture as apprentice - not birth.

Further investigation show more baptisms at St Marys Nottingham to Soloman (Soloman)  and Elizabeth
1799 04 24   Olive
1801 08 02   Sarah
1805 01 13   Thomas
1807 08 03   Elizabeth
1809 08 20   Samuel
1811 10 27   Solaman
1814 01 01   Richard
1815 12 31   Elizabeth
1818 01 04   John
1819 11 14   Mary
1822 01 13   Susannah
1824 06 13   Ann

I see also that there was a Solomon and Ann having children baptised 1832 till 1850 -  Would this be Solomon born to Soloman and Elizabeth,...

Carol - thank you for the information re a burial 1 4 1834 aged 57,  Is this a St Mary's burial?  I see in BMD online that there was a death also in 1844 in Nottingham.

Are you also researtching Baker's in Nottingham for yourself?

Regards
Mavis

Hi Mavis

Sorry the burial was from St. Nicholas, address was Mount St.

There is a marriage for Soloman Baker to Elizabeth Mosley at St Marys 4.12.1798.

I think the Soloman & Ann baptisms were perhaps the son, but I will check to see if I can find anything later.

No I am not researching Bakers of Nottingham

Hi Mavis

There is this marriage which may be the son

Soloman Baker m Ann Mears 4.6.1832 at St Marys.

It looks like there were 2 Soloman Bakers around at the same time as there is also this marriage

Soloman Baker m Ann Stilyans 20.4.1802 at St Nicholas.

The death I found in 1834 may be that one.  Also found this marriage

Olive Baker m Joseph Morley 20.8. 1832 at Basford
