Does anyone live in West Bromwich???
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 15:15 UTC (UK) »

Good afternoon,
I wonder if someone who lives in West Bromwich can answer this question please ??

Is there a Military section in West Bromwich( All Saints) Churchyard extension ? I ask because I have found a chap who may be a relative who I believe is buried there.

PTE. WALTER REDDING No. 49422
Died: 30/10/1917 aged 36
North Staffs Regt. 3rd Battalion.

"Husband of Nancy Redding, 5 Jesson St, West Bromwich. Born at Stratford on Avon.    Remembered with Honour "

Commonwealth War Dead
Cemetery: All Saints W/ Bromwich.

OLD NG 13
........................................................
I assume from this info that he is actually buried there, so hence my question about a military section within the cemetery.

Regards,  Margaret.

Hi Margaret,
according to CWGC there isn't an actual military section.

http://www.cwgc.org/search/cemetery_details.aspx?cemetery=43866&mode=1

may be a case of contacting the cemetary to see if they have a location for the grave.

regards Tony

Hello,
I have had another look at the CWGC site & there appear to be 25 Commonwealth War Graves in All Saints West Bromwich, in the churchyard extension.
Many Thanks,

Margaret.

You need to phone up the crem at Newton Road, West Bromwich, they hold all the records of where people are buried in West Brom and they are pretty helpful

This is such a coincidence !!!  Only yesterday we made the trip out to the church to seek out the grave of Walter !! We found it quite easily as it happens, some of the graves are now covered by weeds etc. The headstone is lovely portland stone, although the grave itself looks very sorry for itself. We took photos & were also able to go into the church & the most helpful church warden pointed out that Walter's name was on a WW1 plaque..he also got out the records so that we now know that Walter was in a family plot belonging to his wife Nancy's family, he is with his parents in law, a brother in law, & his wife Nancy who died in 1955 aged 76.   We also made a point of looking at the graves of ALL the servicemen who are in the churchyard.
