I have not ordered certs from the GRO by post myself so I dont know exactly how long it takes. From what other people have reported here on rootschat order had recently been taking 4 or 5 weeks.

I suspect that they are receiving a large number of orders from people using the LDS index and are a bit swamped.

did you provide the full index information with your order ?

Well I am perplexed as today 9th oct I received my certificate, I gave the refs that were so kindly given to me on this site, and I have received a certificate for Richard John Cardiff born 1st Jan 1876 in Main Street Wexford, father John Cardiff occupation Grocer and mother Maria Blake.

I have a copy of my greatgrandfather Richard's marriage certificate and it states his father was Richard Cardiff and his occupation was given as a farm labourer.  I put this info on the form with the stats.

What do you think?  Huh

What a shame after you have waited so long for it too. Unfortunately we all get the wrong ones occasionally it's just a process of elimination.

I'll have another look at my Cardiff's over the weekend and see if I can try and help you as I am convinced that your Richard is my Johanna's brother.

Richard Cardiff married Catherine Rossiter in 1865 Wexford Registration District
Volume 19 Page 523

Found following children

William Cardiff
Birth: 13-Feb-1870 Wexford
Parents: Richard Cardiff and Catherine Rossiter

Thomas Cardiff
Birth: 13-Mar-1872 Wexford
Parents: Richard Cardiff and Catherine Rossiter

Johanna Bridget Cardiff
Birth: 12-Aug-1879 Tacuenehane, Wexford
Parents: Richard Cardiff and Catherine Ropitet Cardiff

Lawerence Cardiff
Birth: 16-Jan-1868
Parents: Richard Cardiff and Catherine Rossiter

Probably your Richard was born in 1874
Richard Cardiff Birth Wexford Registration District Volume 19 Page 891

This appears to be Richard Senior in 1911 Census as if you click on Household Return (Form A) you can see original page. The Thomas Cardiff is an agricultural labourer so would fit the criteria.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wexford/Tacumshin/Tacumshin/693990/

For some reason Richard is down as married in Census but i cant find his wife anywhere in Ireland anyway.

In Griffiths Valuation there is three Cardiff's in the area one of these is most likely Richard Senior father. The marriage certificate would confirm probably.
Griffiths was not a census but a survey of those head of households that held/rented land/property.

Griffith's Valuation Co.Wexford 1853
Surname Forename Townland Parish County
Cardiff Laurence Furziestown Tacumshin Wexford
Cardiff Michael Sigginstown Tacumshin Wexford
Cardiff Stephen Tacumshin Tacumshin Wexford

Thank you so much for this, it has been a great help to me as well.

I have Richard & Catherine's marriage cert.

Richard's father was Michael.

I think Catherine Cardiff was probably dead by 1911 and Richard was down on the census as married not widowed by mistake.

Thanks again for your help

Many thanks also.

My Richard was born either 1875/76 he was 26 in the 1901 Wales census and his brother William was born 1872 and he was 29 in the 1901 Wales census.

What is interesting is that my Richard (great granddad) had two daughters Catherine Maud and Hilda Catherine so perhaps the Catherine is for his mother? Also his dad was Richard.

I'm still not sure if my Richard is the same one as yours.

I think he probably is. Unfortunately you can't take the dates of birth off a census as true as they were rounded up and down by sometimes as much as 5 years.

I'm sure you will find if you ordered the birth certificate of the Richard Cardiff born in 1874 his parents are likely to be Richard & Catherine.

If that is the case then William was actually born in 1870.

I still think that there are some siblings missing as if Richard was born 1874 the next one in the family is Johanna in 1879, there is likely to be at least another one maybe two in between.

The only Richard Cardiff (senior) on the 1911 census is my one and he still had Thomas and Catherine living at home.

HI Carol
I will send away for the other certificate, if the census date is not right then, death certifcate and marriage certificate are also out.

It's just frustrating as the GRO takes at least 6 weeks to come back!

Hi Gerard
Just wondered  quote "
Probably your Richard was born in 1874
Richard Cardiff Birth Wexford Registration District Volume 19 Page 891" wouldn't my Richard have appeared with the rest of the Richard/Catherine children? Is it not strange that he was missed off?
Thanks

Hi the source of the births i found was the LDS Mormon site it is hit and miss as to what records are on there. So would not be too concerned as to the fact Richard is missing.

The main thing is that the only Richard Cardiff to have children around that time is the one married to Catherine Rossiter.

Also as for deaths and census records often the date of birth is estimated wrongly usually within two to three years and in some cases even up to five to eight years off.

Well birth certificate of Richard Cardiff has arrived born 02/10/1874, parents Richard Cardiff and Catherine Ropiter (Rossiter).
It states Richard junior was born in Rathshillane which I cannot seem to find much info on, is this place in Tacumshin anyone?
