Hi,

well just like you suspect, they did not always marry. Of a family of 7 children I have been tracing only 2 have deifinitley married. One couple married once their children were grown up. So the marriage may be many years after the birth of Kathleen.

Who were the witnesses at the marriage? Sometimes tracing these people will lead you back to one or both of the people you want. They may well be relatives already or marry someone within the family later.

Here is a link to show/fairground people you may find some mention of them here if you are lucky.

Found Florence McAllister married again to Walter Wilman in 1951
I have lost hope of tracing Henry McAllister but I think it might be possible to find ancesters of Florence Haines according to her marriage certificate she was 41 when she married  making her birth year 1898 ,her father was John a collery linesman
She married in brigend but was thought to be from Birmingham I dont mind getting some more certificates but I dont know which would be the most helpful

Hi Jennyrob,

I am a little confused with the age of Florence!
You say when she married Henry she was 41, that would give her a birth of approx 1898.

Then you have a second marriage of Florence in 1951 to Walter, did this certificate also give her age? If so, was this consistent with the age given on the previous marriage to Henry?

Free bmd has a birth in 1898 in Birmingham Of Florence Alice Haines
and one in 1896 of Florence Leah Haines which might be too early.

I am not certain but i think that if you order the certificate with the proviso that the father named on it is John then you would pay a lesser fee if they searched and found it didn't match.
I am not 100% certain about this but somone may read this and confirm one way or the other.

I know she married Walter Wilman in 1951 It was her second marrage so she shows as Florence J McAllister
I have found a Florence Haines in Birmingham on the 1901 cencus It gives her birth as 1897 and her father as John H Haines but his occupation is listed as a pearl button maker. How   can I be certain its the right one I suppose it must be cos I cant find any others Is there a way of checking for definite

Hi,

I've had a look at the family in 1901 with the father who is a pearl button maker.
It seems that some of the children were born  in Aston and some in birmingham. When you do a search for these births on free bmd they all appear to have middle names.

The only one that would match for Florence would be Florence LEAH born 1896. But you say that she was on the marriage certificate as Florence J. Was the certificate handwritten could the L be a J - bit of a long shot I know!

births on free bmd are:
Minnie Violet born 1888 Birmingham
Frances Emily born 1892 Aston
Florence Leah born 1898 birmingham
Jessie Ivy P born 1898 Birmingham
Arthur Emanuel born 1900 Aston

I've looked for marriages of these children and the only one that looks certain is Jessie Ivy P who marries Workman in Birmingham in 1920.

Not sure if this helps?
