Dooley's from Galway
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 16:00 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to locate our Dooley family from Ireland. Our research so far has led us to believe that our Dooley family may have originated from the Ballinasloe region of Co Galway.

My great great grandmother Mary Dooley b c1826 emmigrated from Ireland to Western Australia during the Great Famine, on an Irish 'brideship' in 1852. Mary was the daughter of an Edward Dooley (whitesmith) from Ireland. It was said that she had many relatives whom immigrated to the US (9 brothers, names unknown). Mary married and remained in Australia

Mary's uncle (and brother to Edward) was Larry or Lawrence Dooley. This was affirmed in a letter written in 1890 from Mary's cousin Kate Murphy (nee Dooley) via a letter from Mt Carmel, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, USA. In the letter, Kate refers to her father, Larry and mother (both deceased by 1890), and her brothers Thomas, William, Martin, Larry Jnr and Patrick. Kate's sister Bridget was said to have remained in Ireland.

If anyone thinks that they could be connected to this family or know of someone else who could be, we would dearly love to hear from them.
