The birth certificate should list exact place of birth.

If the information you have is from church records as it seems to be then perhaps all thats in church records is 'Belfast'. You need the actual birth certificate-

Rose Ann YOUNG
Apr./June 1888
Belfast Regsitration District
volume 1
page 388

See here about ordering certificates-
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,383526.0.html

The birth certificate will list exact place of birth.

hi.

i have obtained a copy of roses birth cert from the bmd registers office in sligo.

roses place of birth, and her fathers dwelling place are listed as school yard. does anyone know if this is a street or a district or any other. the informant Annie Mulhollands residence is also listed as school yard.

               cheers. doch.

hi.

since last post i have found on the lennon wylie web site, shcoolhouse yard, lagan village.i have also found that this is in the parish of knockbreda. would anyone know of a site where i could view maps of belfast from the late 1800's to the early 1900's to get an idea of where my grandmother was born.

Lagan Village is on the banks of the Lagan at the bottom of the Ravenhill Road.  Looking at my 1902 map of the area there is a school between Dan's Row and McMullan's Lane.  It looks as if there is a 'yard' behind there.  I remember the school from my childhood, and indeed Dan's Row.  Schoolyard doesn't seem to exist in the 1890s.  RosemaryJoan

hi maggie.

thanks for your reply.i already had a search through the lennon wylie site. it describes schoolhouse yard as  a small collection of houses, but doesnt give any detail about residents/shops etc. maybe it was demolished soon after roses birth?.
