I'm having real trouble finding a correct marriage using Freebmd to ultimately find a maiden name for the lady i am looking for.
I have found them consistantly on the census, it is solely this marriage that has brought me to a standstill.
William Satchell b1824, Harbury, Warwickshire. is shown on the census with a Mary Ann. Her birthplace is rather inconsistent but was born 1832 in either Rugby, Warwickshire or Northamptonshire depending on which census is correct.
Together they had 10 children in total
Sarah Ann 1851
Mary Elizabeth 1852
Agnes Lucy 1854
Edwin John James Satchell 1856
Martin George Satchell 1858
William Francis 1860
Emmanuel 1861
Alfred 1865
Julia H 1866
Simon Joseph 1869
All the above born in Rugby, Warwickshire.
If it comes to ordering a marriage certificate, then so be it, but i'm not entirely sure which entry in the index the marriage is under after doing a search.
Could anyone here help in this mystery to maybe help find the marriage and a maiden name for Mary Ann.

I see what you mean about the marriage, i have had a look on freebmd
I think what i would do is send for the birth cert of one of the children, especially one of the more unusual childrens names, and that will tell you Mary Ann's maiden name, than you may be able to find the right marriage, hopefully

Hello
I've just found your Satchell query . I have been researching the family for sometime now & have a tree on ancestry .com. The surname you are looking for is Satchell believe it or not.
They were married on 17 September 1849. He was a Tailor.
I recieved this info from the Rugby look up exchange. There is also an obituary from a newspaper on my Ancestry pages.

On the marriage lookup what was Mary Ann Satchell's father's name, and do you know where she was born, or atleast where she was residing at the time of marriage?
Usually that information is on the marriage certificate, and would help me find her parents and so fourth.

Presume you have found the 1841 Census with 2 families of Satchells, including a Emmanuel age 32 and William, 16?

I have done a search from a William Satchell on FreeBMD for marriages between 1840 (When william turned 16) to 1851 (the birth of their first child)

I know that William Satchell's father is called James Satchell and his mother is Betsy Jeacock.
I have the 1841 census entry where William is 16 yeah. Looks like they are living next door to James' brother Emmanuel possibly.
As you can see from the results above there is no entry alongside a marriage for William Satchell a Mary Ann of any description so it does look like she married as Ann.
As Suzy13 said, i presume her source has named the father of William as James Satchell, and i think i should wait until suzy13 replies to the topic for a little more information.
I would love to know the name of Mary Ann Satchell's father. And also where she was born, as she isn't very consistent about her place of birth of the census records available.
If her name is Satchell i think i have found an entry on IGI for her...

Hello
I have just checked & have a photocopy of William Satchells Marriage to (mary) Ann Satchell on 17 September 1849 in Rugby. His occupation is a tailor hers is not on the cert. His father is James Satchell his occupation is smudged but her father is John Satchell occupation labourer.
I hope this helps
Just google warwickshire lookup exchange to find lots of info available from them

I have been researcing SATCHELL for many years and I found this which might be helpful:
In the 1841 British Census, William is aged 16, an apprentice tailor, living with his
parents at Horse Pool Street, Rugby. Ref HO107/1137/12
In the 1851 British Census William was 27 years old, a tailor, married and living
with his wife, Mary A. and daughter, Sarah, at 29 Union Street, Rugby, WAR.
PRO Reference HO/107/2069/Folio208/page53/FHL Film 0087333
In 1881 British Census William is 53, married, a tailor,
living with wife and children at 36 Porter Street, Leicester.
