Hi Ruth: If you'd like to read the entire newspaper article about the WRENS at Roosevelt Field, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send if off to you. The article was too long to post in its entirety, and there a few pictures of the WRENS at work and at play.

I think if you went over to the Armed Forces board and posted a query about finding World War II records for the WRENS, you would have help in a minute.

Thanks for your advice on the Hendrys. As to my Hendry connection, it is a tale of woe and dead ends. My great grandfather on my mother's side, the elusive Robert Hendry, was born, I think, in or near Glasgow in 1856. He emigrated to the U.S., near Boston, Massachusetts, in 1882, and I have been unable to get him back to Scotland, so to speak. He married a Scottish woman over here, and I think they knew each other before marrying. His wife, my great grandmother, was born in Glasgow, and came to the U.S. in 1881. On the passenger list with her I found a Margaret or Mary Hendry. I think it's too great a coincidence that my great grandmother traveled to the U.S. with a Hendry and then married a Hendry three months after he arrived in Massachusetts.

I've had Rootschatters search high, low, and in between for him to no avail, and I invested a fair amount of money in the Scotlandspeople website with no luck.  Cry  And most of my relatives in Massachusetts who might have known about him have passed on

But I digress...

Regards,
