Hi,
I am nearly there now with my Stevenson family tree but cannot find my elusive great, great grandmother.
She was born 20 Dec 1867 in Greasley, Nottingham and is registered as Elethea Stevenson 7b, 90
I have her on the 1871 Census living in Swingate, Greasley this time she's down as Lettia Stevenson
On the 1881 census I have her as Leith? Stevenson, a servant living with the Bramley family in 2, Two Mile House Basford, Nottingham.
The next thing I have is her giving birth to my illegitimate grandfather John William Stevenson on 12 Feb 1886 at 16 Chatham Street, Bulwell. No name is given for the father and she is down as a cotton bleacher. Her name on the birth certificate is written as Leather Stevenson.
I cannot find trace of her after this, but have come across a Charles Blaber family tree online who married an Elethea Stevenson and has her as dying 16 Dec 1898 but can find no paper trail to back this up.
The family also say that my great grandfather John William Stevenson went to live in America when he was young but came back. I can find a Charles Blaber and a John Blaber coming back into the UK in 1899 aboard the Aurania but can find no trace of them going out to see if that's really them and maybe Elethea died in America?
I know that John William Stevenson was living with his Grandmother Lucy Brown at 16 Chatham Street, Bulwell, Nottingham on the 1891 census and the 1901 census so they would have gone between these dates.
Any help or advice would be very welcome.
Thanks
Ann

Hi
When was the marriage supposed to have taken place between Elethea and Charles?

Hi,
I'm not sure as I've only got this information from a family tree I found online, it would have been after February 1886 I assume, they don't say on their tree when or where they got married.
Sorry I'm not much help but I've found it really hard to find anything to back up the online tree information.
Thanks
Ann

Hi Ann
I saw the tree you mentioned, I think. He seem to have 4 marriages, of which three I found, but not Elethea as yet.

Yes I got that too, not sure where they got the marriage information from because I can't find anything. It looks like it's my Elethea, maybe it'll be easier if I can get in touch with them and find out what they know?
Thanks for helping

Hi
On the 1898 passenger list, Oct, on the Lucania there is a Leither Blaber born abt 1866, as wife of whom I cannot see, a Charles Blaber aged 3 and infant Arthur returning from the New York to Liverpool.

I saw that one too, it's probably her with Charles and John following on in January 1899.
Weird though that I can't find any information about their marriage or trip out to the USA?
Also, no information for her death, which if it was in Dec 1898 would be just after they returned?
Because she had an unusual name I think people just spelt how they wanted to! It doesn't make it easy to track her.
I've emailed the person who put the family tree together on ancestry. com to see if they can let me have any of their sources.
Slowly I'm getting there, thanks for all you help.

Hi
This suggests that the following family in 1901 is relevant (Kate perhaps a second wife of Charles):
1901 census: RG13/2994/112/24 24 Justice St, Belgrave, Leicester
Charles BLABER Head Mar 30 House Painter Notts Nottingham Kate do Wife Mar 26 Leicestershire Kibworth Charles do Son S 5 America New York Arthur do Son S 3 America New York

Fantastic, what a find, that looks like it was them then.
I wonder if she was ill which was why she came back with the small children with Charles and John following on after her death.
And the marriage dates tie in if she died in Dec 1898, Charles and John came back in Jan 1899 and then re-married the following year.
Strange that I can't find anything for them actually getting married? But then again it depends what they wrote her name as on the certificate I suppose!
Thanks for that.

Teutonic, dep 26 Aug 1896 Liverpool-New York
Annie BLABER Wife John W BLABER 11 Chas W BLABER 2mo

That must be it, John's the right age. They don't make it easy for you to track them do they!
It checks out against Charles too because the info you found on the census has him as a painter and he's that on the passenger list returning to the UK too.

That ties in with the details I found on someone else's tree, they have death as Dec 1898 at 16 Chatham Street Bulwell, I cna't believe she was known by so many names!
Thanks for helping me find all this out.
Am downloading all the information from the ships at the moment.
Thanks again
