Would like to compare notes with anyone researching the family names KELSO, BUCHANAN or HASTINGS in Arran (any dates).
I have a certain amount of information from various sources, but would like to join the dots!!

I have been doing research on my family and have both Buchanans and possibly Hastings in my family tree. Mathew Buchanan (b.1830 somewhere in Scotland)married Mary Kerr (of Irish decent?) and moved to St. John County, New Brunswick, Canada. Their daughter's name was Katherine HASTINGS Buchanan. Seems a bit coincidental, eh? Does any of this fit with your info?
I have not found out where the Buchanans came from. I believe Mathew had a sister Nancy, and she married my g.g.g.g.grandfather, Thomas Slater (Ireland).
Help?

Hello Joy!
Pleased to meet you - we must be cousins somewhere along the line!
My HASTINGS and BUCHANAN families did not "get together" until the marriage of Jane BUCHANAN from Dunbarton and John HASTINGS from Dumfriesshire in 1850.
Their son - my ancestor - was Enoch Buchanan HASTINGS.
The HASTINGS name is slightly unusual in Scotland I believe, but there are quite a few BUCHANANS! There must be a link somewhere and I would be intrigued to know where your families came from in case there is a link.
Incidentally my John HASTINGS was the son of John HASTINGS and Elizabeth Mc MILLAN: there were lots of children, but I don;t have a Mathew, although the eldest was an Annie b 1812.
I hope this helps
kind regards, Arranroots
