Erik Haaken Eriksen Norway Help Please

Hiya All,Am helping a friend research her Eriksen tree but have never researched abroad so all help welcome.Am trying to find details on Erik Haaken Eriksen born 1881 in Norway his Father was Edward Eriksen a Master Mariner .Erik by 1905 was living in Llanelli,South Wales and  married and later had 6 children then left the family and wasnt seen again .So that is sadly all the info we have to go on.

You should read about the Norwegian naming system for a good start:

What was Erik's occupation in England?
Who were the witnesses at the marriage?
When did he leave the family-- possibly circa WWI?

There are some Norwegian censuses at
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/folketellinger_e.aspx
1865/1875/1900. Unfortunately I can't find them - he may be at sea in 1900 also.

Hiya Thanks for the sites will have  a look.Erik in 1905 when he married was a Mason before we are told he was a Sailor as before he married  he went back and for to Norway then  back to see Sarah in Wales ?His Father Edward is deceased by 1905.Witnesses at the marriage were from his wifes side.

1901 Census has an Erik Erickson aged 19 b. Tonsber, Norway living in the Glamorgan area. He is a Fireman

Tonsber is probably Tonsberg.

I am sorry but I don't think this Erik Eriksen in Cardiff in 1901 is the one you want. If we go to the Norwegian census of 1900 we can find this Erik Eriksen mentioned as abroad and as a "fireman". His father is Emil Andreas Eriksen and not Edvard.  (Horten is the district next to Tønsberg.) I assume you have the name Edvard Eriksen and his occupation from the marriage certificate which I assume was the one in Llanelly in 1905 and to Sarah Ann Griffiths.

We can find the baptism here (no.4 amongst the male births) but no Haakon as a middle name.

He can also be found on a shipping list provided by the consulate at Cardiff in 1900

It is possible that this Erik Eriksen is the one who married in 1906 in Cardiff written as Erikson.
Your Erik Eriksen can be found in the 1911 census in Llanelly, maybe there is more information there as to where in Norway he was born. You could also try posting your query on the Norwegian digital archives users' forum.
