Hi fellow researchers and greetings from Canada!
I am looking for information on John Tait and Margaret Dickson. These are my Great (x5) Grandparents.
I have John Tait b. 1730 - Scotland. I suspect he was born in the district of Kirkcudbrightshire as this line I''m following has multiple generations in this area.
My John married Margaret Dickson. I have no information on her at all, and am quite interested in her.
I found a Robert Tait b. 1769 which noted my John and Mary as his parents. From that point forward to me, I have good connections.
Robert's children (including my ggg grannie Agnes) were born in Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire which is why I think that both my John and Margaret, and their Robert were in this area.
Anyone with information or potential connections, I'd love to hear from you!
cheers Misha

Hi Misha
There are some christening entries, showing as a mixture of actual extract from the Old Parish Registers and submitted entries on IGI www.familysearch.org for other children apart from Robert:
1. Jane Tait Christening: 21 DEC 1762 Eccles, Berwick - submitted 2. Robert Tait Christening: 25 DEC 1765 Greenlaw, Berwick - submitted 3. Alison Tait Christening: 09 MAY 1767 Greenlaw, Berwick - actual extract 4. Margaret Tait Christening: 01 SEP 1771 Greenlaw, Berwick - actual extract
There is also a submitted entry for marriage (although submitted, this shows on Scotlands People OPR index on line www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk):
JOHN TAIT Marriage: 28 NOV 1761 Eccles, Berwick

Hi and Thank you Monica.
Love the link! I'll be spending a fair bit of time there I think.
I read that post you noted a few times. names are good, dates aren't meshing and this family headed to Austrailia (sunny), my line went to Canada (snowy). <sigh lol>
The notes you found weren't for my line unfortunately. I do thank you so much for the time you offered to search for me.
I think the era is going to be challenging to secure information on, but I try every so often to see what might have popped up. I'm searching another couple 1700 and 1706 which is feeling impossible - ah well, its all a good romp through time!!
Again thank you very much for your contribution.
happy weekend! Misha

Hi Misha
I see where the problem lies with the issue of Robert's wife name. The post here on RC refers to Rober't wife being a Janet Graham. The trees on Ancestry (and there are lots) have all linked your Robert, husband of Janet Mitchell, to this family

Hi Monica,
Yes, the wives names, and the destinations. This line migrated to Canada's east coast - New Brunswick
I noted the errors/mis connections/ inconsistencies on Ancestry too. I did as much as I could at the National Archives here in Ottawa and trailed back as far as I could to/in Scotland.
I am fortunate as my mother is #10 in a line of 19 children and some of the older siblings have/had good memories and stories from my g grannie who recorded stories from her mom and grannie (my Agnes) in her journals (along with some recipes!).
Because of the dates I''m working with here, I expect to use caution in securing a line. Maybe I'm being too lofty.
I feel pretty strongly that these people were in the Kirkcudbrightshire area because of my Agnes Tait b. 1799 (Roberts Daughter). She married a Cuthbertson from the same vicinity.
I think I'm just going to have to head to the UK to sort this out
Thanks again
Kind regards, Misha
