Joseph Henry Bourne
« on: Wednesday 02 March 05 13:22 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find any further iinfo on my ggrandfather Joseph Henry Bourne. In the 1901 census he was living at 195 Poplar High St with his wife Mary Ann Jane, daughter Florence Mary and housekeeper Sophia Rosenthal (whom he later married).
I know that he was a fishmonger at this time, and was still alive but retired when my grandmother married in 1924. Any further help gratefully recieved

Hello

We need more information if we are to be able to help.  How old was he, where was he born.  How old was his wife and daughter and where were they born.

Do you have his marriage certificate?

Have you found him on the 1881 census www.familysearch.org

All information you can give is helpful to researchers.

Although Poplar High Street was in Middlesex for most purposes it is best to ask on the London Boards.

From what I've been able to find to date I think he was born in1867/8, in the 1881 census he was lodging with his Uncle - Thomas Markham at 85 Ford Road. His wife Mary Ann Jane was born in 1880 I think in Mile End. On their wedding cert 1/7/1895 her Father was James Ward, tobacco pipe manufacturer, his Father was Henry Bourne, Weaver. Their daughter Florence was born at 195 Poplar High st 5/1/1899.

You really need to find his birth before you go much further.  You didn't say where he was born or his age in 1901.  I couldn't find him on freebmd.  You will have to look at www.1837online.com.  You do have to pay but it is worth it

I did find these in 1851 index for Bethnal Green
HO 107/1540 folio 178

Caroline Markham age 19 with a very large family

and ho 107/1541 folio Henry Bourn age 22

someone will look up these references for you in the actual census.  If they don't after a week then put a request on the London Lookup requests board quoting the names and references.

You will still need to find Joseph birth certificate to confirm his mothers name.

Good luck
