In 1871 I think this is Edwyns wife
RG09 piece 3164 folio 83 page 7

living at Station House, Silverdale, Lancaster is
William STAINTON Head 38   Station Master bn  Sedburgh Yorkshire
Mabel Wife  36  bn Horton Yorkshire
Anne Dtr16   Assists At Home bn Horton, Yorkshire
John Son   11   Scholar bn  Cartmel Lancashire
William Son   5  Scholar bn Blackburn Lancashire
Thomas Grandson  11Months bn Silverdale Lancashire

Rosie

As Annie Morland Stainton was born in 1842 and married March qtr 1865 (Lancaster reg district for Edwyn Clement and Annie Morland Stainton) shouldn't she have been 19 not 16?

Do you think it possible that Morland is just a middle name or could have been a previous married name?

If you search freebmd for a marriage for a William Stainton with a wife first name Mabel you could well find the answer to this.  Grin

I have altered my original post as this was 1861 not 1871 as I had typed.  Roll Eyes
The Anne I have found age 16 ties in with the 1871 where she says she is 26.

Excellent and lots of avenues to explore.

Searched the IGI and FreeBMD for a marriage of Mary and Mark Clement...?

As their son Frederick was 24 in 1861 census, it's likely he was born before civil registration began in 1837, so the marriage would also be before then, and so would not appear on freebmd - and the IGI does not cover every parish.

You would need to search parish records for events before 1837, have you looked at freereg? http://www.freereg.org.uk/

It would help to have one of the children's birth certs (unless you already have one) for their mother's maiden name, to help find the marriage

No going to try and find the children's birth certificates and any other possible children on early census...
