rochdale death

Is there any way that I can find an ancestor who is supposed to have jumped from a bridge in Rochdale and  killed himself. He was William Stead b 1879 in
Rochdale, married 31st December 1904 again in Rochdale to Mary Crossley. He was still alive in 1909 when his won also a William was born. Any help would be appreciated as I seem to have hit a brick wall on this one.

Have you tried the archives from the Rochdale Observer newspaper?

I think anything over 25 years old is held at The Local Studies Library, Touchstones, The Esplanade, Rochdale, OL16 1AQ, Telephone 01706 924492.

He was still alive in 1911 too.
Here are the Stead family on the 1911 census, if you don't have them.
Living at 167 Whitehall St, Rochdale.

William 31 (machine labourer)
Mary 28
Albert 4
William 2
Edna Mary 2 months

Hello

There is a death registration in the last quarter of 1939 at Rochdale for a William Stead aged 60. The GRO reference is 8e 13.

It looks like a strong possibility to be the one that you are looking for.

Thank you Karen and Posteria for your replies. I would love to go to Touchstones but unfortunately I live in Australia, but I am grateful for your help, it has helped me get a little bit further in the mystery of the Stead family.

localstudies@rochdale.gov.uk

They will do a limited search if you can give them some info..possible that it made the local paper..
