No Audrey - it's not just you !!
Today, it's taking abvery *friendly* persone ages for the main page to load up, then when I click onto a topic, it just hangs, and when I try to post messages, well - I could go and make myself a sandwich while I wait.
Glad someone else is having problems and not just me.

It IS slow !!
One of the reasons, maybe: I just checked on the bottom of the home page: 197 Guests, 93 Users
That's a lot of users !!
Paradox but true: the more users, the better the site - the less users, the faster the site !

"Maybe the web is just having a busy day, or someone is mounting a Denial-of-Service attack on some unlucky target ...."
Why would someone do that Bob ??

Might be due to the weather, as heavy snow here, has caused most schools to close, and a lot of people haven't been able to get into work, or have been sent home early - so most of the South East are on the net !
cheers Sandra

Hi Trystan,
just a thought: I posted this on another thread, http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,33257.0.html but it is also relevant here
I have a slow connection today, so I clicked on "stop" while the "Welcome" page was loading.
It came up like this, which I find much better, than the present version, with "most viewed" etc.

It seems as if the "work" required, to calculate the statistics also contributes to the slowness (at least here on the welcome page)
Worth thinking about when you re-vamp the presentation
(I did hear a rumour about that, didn't I ? If so, maybe you cold change the "Even lighter side" name to something shorter - it keeps changing the width of the first column !)

Yes it does seem slightly faster now !
When I am working in the office I usually leave the "Welcome" on screen and minimize it. Then, when I am having a coffee break (Gosh, don't the coffee breaks get long sometimes ) I maximize the browser, check the time of the last entry and press F5 for refresh. Then I can see immediately, what's new ... so having the "Welcome" page faster is a big help, for me !
Coffe break over, back to work !!
