Ann Weatherill Dodds born around 1819 - Completed, thank you
« on: Monday 17 August 09 18:58 UTC (UK) »

Searching for a Ann Weartherill Dodds born around 1891 and married William Franklin in 1843 in Sculcoates. Trying to find some reference to her parents before I rush out and buy a marraige cert.
Many thanks
Lotte

As you've got her marrying before she was born, I'm assuming you've given the wrong birthdate for her?  Wink

The IGI has a baptism for an Ann Wetheril Dodds 3 Feb 1814 at Sculcoates, daughter of John & Margaret, which would make her about 29 when she married. Is this her?

Hi Lotte

I would re-check who Ann W Dodds married, according to Freebmd William Franklin is just one of four possible husbands, but if you look on yorkshirebmd you will see that Ann married Jacob Brown at St Andrew (Drypool).

Thanks
Clearly didn't check my info very well did I!

So far the only reference I can find for her at all is her marriage to William Franklin Vol 22 Pge 343. There is definitely an age difference as the census shows at least 10 years difference and born 1819 - 1821(the ages do vary from year to year) born in Cottingham. Cannot find her anywhere else

Doesn't the above cast doubt upon the marriage to William?

Hi
It hadn't yet as I cannot find any other info other than what I have mentioned.  The census supports the age difference, as do their children's names. HOWEVER, I never take it at face value and will be sending for Emily Franklin's birth cert to be sure.  I already had the name Ann Weatherill, it was only when I rechecked the info that the Dodds came up and the lettering is now in bold, so now double keyed.  I have Emily's marriage cert and her father's name is spelt Franklin without a G, a farmer from Cottingham

Best wishes

Sorry, Lottee, but this is all very garbled.  Wink

You're mentioning information about censuses and age differences, but we don't have the relevant info, so it's very difficult to follow what you're trying to say and, therefore, difficult to help.

It looks as if it's the Franklin family who you're trying to trace back. Is that correct?

Bee has already suggested that Ann W Dodds married a Jacob Brown in 1843 - NOT your William Franklin.

I'd suggest you need to get Emily's birth certificate to find the names of her parents. Have you found the reference for Emily's birth in the FreeBMD indexes?  Looks like it's probably December Quarter 1856 Sculcoates Vol 9d Pg 116. From there, you should hopefully be able to find the correct marriage for her parents.

Hi Jill

I started looking for Ann Weatherill's parents. I have her married to William Franklin in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census. It was only went I went to recheck my previous information about their marriage, did I realise that her surname now had Dodds attached to it.

I can see Jacob Brown in 1843, but the names don't always sit next to each other do they or at least they haven't with some of my previous finds.

As you say, Emily's birth cert should clarify the mother.

Best wishes

I think the misunderstanding here is that you have not realised that the yorkshirebmd site that Bee quotes gives the actual spouse whereas freebmd shows all the possibles that they have transcribed from that page.  Not necessarily couples.  Does that make sense?   William may have married an Ann but he did not marry Ann W Dodds.  Getting a birth certificate will sort it as you say.

Hi Andrea, Jill and Bee

I finally found what you have all been saying   Embarrassed. Because I was entering Ann Weatherill Dodds into Yorkshire bmd, nothing was coming up and all I had was freebmd to go by, so consequently thought I was loosing my marbles especially when originally I had Ann Weatherill.  Taking out the Weatherill and just entering Ann Dodds made the difference. Sorry Bee it looks like I'm not searching for Ann Dodds after all but Ann Wride, so back to the drawing board
Once I receive Emily's birth cert will let you know

Best wishes

Hi Lotte

If you want William Franklin on the 1841 census he's transcribed as Frankle and living with John & Elizabeth aged 70 & 81 in West Green, Cottingham, living next door is the Wride family.

Hi Lottee

If the 1841 Franklins in Cottingham are yours then they are buried in St Mary's churchyard in Cottingham.
I have the MI's for Cottingham and John Franklin departed this life 26/4/1842 age 69 and wife Elizabeth died 14/3/1846 aged 84

There is also an entry for a William Franklin who died 16/12/1879 aged 73, this is a seperate grave from John & Elizabeth.
