John and Samuel Stevenson, BMD Leicester 1810/40
« on: Monday 17 August 09 20:49 UTC (UK) »

I'm looking for some help with my Stevenson in Leicester branch.

1) John Stevenson died 26 Sept 1838 (Leicester 15 59) , father Samuel...he was 1 day old
the address looks like Morrells Yard?

Could someone help me with John's mother.  I think it was Martha Smeeton

2) Samuel Stevenson died 7 Dec 1840 (Leicester 15 74) age 29, address Albion St, St Margarets
Is this the same Samuel - John's father?

3) Rebecca Stevenson died 8 Oct 1838 (Leicester 15 78), husband John, age 60, address Burgess St, All Saints
I think she was Rebecca Gamble (through IGI) but is she and is she the mother of Samuel.?

I'm looking for some help to confirm these relationships and any links to other Stevensons and Gambles

Appreciate the asssitance

Hi Katherine, I have Stevensons, Gambles in my family tree, but not the ones you have mentioned there, mine are  married to Whittles. Best of luck because it seems to be names all popular with Leicester. Shout if you wish me to look up any of mine!! Smiley

Hi Katherine,

Ive got my Northants branch of the Stevensons, an Elizabeth Stevenson who married a John Smeeton in 1846.

In the 1851 census they were in St. Margarets, Leicester. Ive just come back from the Welford Road cemetery where they are buried. Do we share a connection?

Thanks for your note on the Smeeton/Stevensons.  Right now I'm not sure as to connections.  I've been wandering through the Smeetons in the Northants/Leics region and I have numerous loose ends currently.

By 1851 ...are you referring to the John age 30, Elizabeth age 29 on Charles St?

I did find a GRO reference for a John Stevenson born Sept 1838 Leicester 15 95 (re my first posting) and will probably send for the cert to define the parents

Thanks all for your ongoing assistance in this trek.  Oh for a family that had at least a few unusual names!!

Thats the ones. 21,  L Charles St. Could that be Lower Charles St?

But Elizabeth was actually born in Brampton Ash, Northamptonshire.
