Slightly O/T Leicester Allotments Society

Hi

Next year is the centenary of the Leicester Allotment Society and I have volunteered [arm twisting involved] to help my sister research the history of the Belgrave Society which consists of 5 sites at Redhill, Orton Close, Harrison Road, Oakland Avenue and Uxbridge Road.

They are researching the development of each of their sites and looking at heritage vegetables and any memories from this time in relation to what they grew and the varieties they had.  Then if they can get hold of seeds they are going to grow them to display at the Centennary event which is being held in August 2010 at Belgrave Hall.

I also wondered if, during the war when people were also encouraged to keep chickens, pigs etc were they kept at these locations.

Whilst I appreciate that this is slightly off-topic any memories, photo's etc, would go wonderfully well with some of the "official documentation" that they have been able to access.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you could help, it would be very much appreciated.

Regards
