yip Im with you now. It appears that the younger children were perhaps rehomed in their aunt and uncles homes. Or maybe the older ones too died of the consumption. Would explain the lack of family around Kirkcaldy I guess.

There is no marriage showing on the OPRs it would seem. The first christening of their 10 children showing on IGI is on 29 JAN 1839 in Logierait, so marriage likely before this date.

The Mclaren family in 1851 - everyone showing as born in Logierait:

David McLaren 36, mason
Catherine McLaren 36
Peter McLaren 8
Margory McLaren 6
Jane McLaren 4
David McLaren 2

Address: Inver, Logierait

And in 1841:

David McLaren 26, mason
Catherine McLaren 25
Alexander McLaren 2
Janet McLaren 4 Months

Address: West Inver, Logierait

Might be worth having a look at the death certificate of Catherine Reid (46), other name McLaren, m.s.  MacDonald, who died Logierait, Perth, 1860.

Sorry folks - my careless mistype. Should have said MOTHER's surname McDonald not "m.s.".

According to "Concerning the Names Patrick, Pádraig, Patricia, and the Like"
by Josh Mittleman, Steve Roylance, and Pedr Gurteen 1998
In modern Scottish Gaelic, Patrick exists in several forms: Pádruig, Páruig, Para, and Pádair or Pátair. This last form led to confusion with English Peter, and the two names were often treated as equivalent in the 18th and 19th centuries

This is a brilliant site for checking first name variants www.whatsinaname.net and yes, Peter and Patrick are often interchangeable.

On one of the above posts regarding the younger Peter Mclaren b. 1885, he was on the 1901 census as living with his aunt jane/jessie ( his fathers sister). I have tried on scotlands people to find Jessies death cert but no success. Anyone have any ideas what happened to Jessie?  Huh
