Are the Bakers in Sussex 1881 (COMPLETED)
« on: Wednesday 19 August 09 02:17 UTC (UK) »

Looking for John William Baker and his Wife Lucy (born abt 1839 Stafford)  They were married in Sussex 1870, but lost track of them after that date.  Not on the I.G.I for 1881 Census, would someone have their hands on the census records for 1881, 1891, 1901?

Regards

Must be different.  This Lucy is 10 years younger than mine.  This confirms I have the wrong marriage.

In order to help, I think we ought to know a little from more recent times.
As Bakers are far too numerous, could you at least give us John's profession, and the names of any children your John & Lucy had and their probable years of their births.

What I was going on, was the marriage of Lucy Merricks to John Baker.  But Lucy was born in Stafford 1838, and clearly this Lucy in the census was 10 years younger, so I would presume I have the wrong one.  There are no more records of any other Lucy Merricks getting married, and thought this may of been her, so I am at that brick wall again.

I have seen Lucy's birth in Staffordshire on FreeBMD and the marriage you refer to, but can find no other couples in that census that seem to fit the bill.  I also note that the Brighton entry in the 1881 census has a mother in law living with the family.

Although that mother in Law's surname is not Merrick (it is Jane Hallett),
Have you considered whether this is a mis-transcription and that the daughter has also removed a decade from her genuine age so that it is nearer to the age of her husband?  It would therefore be interesting to find when that Lucy stopped producing children and the age given to her when she died.

Lucys mother is Mary, and Mary died in 1879 Stafford.
