COMPLETED Baptisms of LANE Children in Henley-On-Thames
« on: Wednesday 19 August 09 23:39 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Would it be possible for someone to look up the baptism for the LANE children in Henley-on-Thames please?  These are the children of Charles LANE and Emily Maria THORNHILL.

This couple's children seem to be split between London and Henley-on-Thames, but I suspect the following were born and baptised in the parish:

- Thomas Thornhill LANE
- Anna Maria LANE (this one also died, so there is possible a burial record for around 1836)
- John Reynolds LANE
- Helena Urusla LANE
- Cudbert William LANE

There may be more.  These baptisms took place in the later 1830s and early 1840s.

Thanks

Theresa

Found two of the births at Henley on Thames. I found them on the free BMD web site.
Helena Ursula 1836 Henley
Cuthbert William Jones Lane 1842 Henly.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi,

Thanks for that Toby - I actually have both of those certificates.  I am attempting to find out baptism dates.

Anna and Thomas were also born before birth certificates were registered in 1837, so I am particularly interested in baptism dates for those two.

From the Oxfordshire FHS CD, these were baptised at St Mary, Henley:

Feb 13 1834 Thomas Thornhill Lane s/o Charles & Emily Maria of Badgemore. Charles' occupation is given as ESQR!!!
Feb 27 1836 John Reynolds Lane    ditto
Sep 27 1837 Helena Ursula Lane    ditto
May 25 1842 Cudbert William Jones Lane  ditto  (born March 10 1842)

I can't see anything for Anna Maria, neither baptism nor burial.

Hi Jill,

Thanks for this - just what I needed.

Yes, Charles was an Esquire.  He was decended from Baronets and a Mayor of London and was also a Justice of the Peace.  He lived in a manor house in Badgemore which is now the Badgemore Gold Course.
