Mausoleums at Waikumete....
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 05:21 UTC (UK) »

Have found a mausoleum with a family name of ours at Waikumete Cemetery.
How do you find out who is in it?
None of those family surnames at Waikumete come up on the online details in any mausoleum  Huh
Perhaps this is what they class as confidential information?
Can anyone help please?

I checked the names against the online cemetery ones and they all match, and have burial records if you can access the fiche.
I thought there may be some different names...When the NZSG team recorded the cem they ??would have put some details on the mausolium

Maybe email to office in the morning would be quicker.

They are very impressive aren't they, have never really seen one in NZ before

Thanks althea Smiley
I was sent this pic today .... by a family member -
and was asked if I could find anything about it - it's very exciting!
I will try and email the office tomorrow for info....
there are no names ..... just the surname and perhaps 6 people there?
Gosh I used to roam around that place when we lived over that way ...
never looked at those mausoleums though!

They are certain beautiful Paulashell

I used to go past them on my way to my great grandparents grave in the 1980's and 90's

Then moved down to south Island so did not see them on my last trip there.

As Althea says email the office. They are very helpful

Have just heard back from Waikumete Cemetery.....

"I have not been able to locate a Lovich mausoleum and without full information would be unable to locate the person you are seeking."

They then go on to give me the details for searching online for myself.

All I can think of is that these could be in the confidential details that are mentioned when you do an online search.
I have some distant rellies that I must contact now to see if they can shed any light on the Mausoleum.

Just a thought, these mausoleums take some time to build,a grave can be dug in hours, maybe the Lovich mausoleum is as yet unoccupied, although I noticed that on the Waikumete cemetery search,it says Plot: N/A which is unusual, maybe in a mausoleum, just a thought.

Thanks Janette - Joseph Douglas Lovich does have a burial plot and a row number, it's just not showing yet.
But thanks to you I guess - I contacted a person from his Lovich family that we have never been able to find a connection to.  For the first time she mentioned one document she had with the same Croatian name as our family.  While talking to her, I casually searched that name on Geni.com and found all of our ancestor names and hers there too under Anticic Lovic!! I messaged the tree owner who then sent me photos of birth entries in ancient books that she has access to.  She then merged our trees on Geni and now we have all of our Croatian family history that is on record !!!!!  I could immediately find the connection that we had been looking for re Joseph Douglas Lovich's family..... our Gt Gt Grandfather's were brothers! The miracle of modern technology .... I've been doing some dancing with the ancestors these past few days  Grin

Still don't know who belongs to the mausoleum though.... but it has led us to what we have now!

What a great result   Wink,if you get a chance to go into the office at Waikumete, ask for Marion or Tim,I am sure they will help you with the ownership of the mausoleum,a couple of the office people are fairly new but Tim and Marion are old hands.

Hi Nikolai,
I spoke to Joseph's daughter....
My Grandfather came from Igrane as well .... that's why we knew there had to be a connection.
Between the two families we seem to be related to most of Igrane  Grin
Your name has a Croatian ring to it...... are you on Geni and are we related? lolzzzzz
