They are certain beautiful Paulashell

I used to go past them on my way to my great grandparents grave in the 1980's and 90's

Then moved down to south Island so did not see them on my last trip there.

As Althea says email the office. They are very helpful

The Mausoleums are amazing at Waikumete... i took some pics and put them on flickr here http://www.flickr.com/photos/porkynz/2517424815/  One is being built at the mo that seriously is the size of a small house.  I remember seeing the Lovich one too.  I was just at Waikumete again today!

Cheers

Just being looking at your photos on Flicker and see the Corbans one there. I know their daughter from the former Mayor of Henderson and they are very lovely people.

Not far from the Corbans Mos is where my great grandparents are buried

Enjoyed your photos Sarndra ..... so fascinating!
I will visit Waikumete in a few weeks time as we are having a Family History gathering out West.
Though it will be on a Saturday and I'm not sure if the office will be open.
My brother has moved to a place above Waikumete and has amazing views of Auckland, which also include the Mausoleum 'suburb'.   He said that there are around 40 there and more are being built.
He mentioned Corbans among others but I was unable to locate any family members located in mausoleums when I searched the online records.

Thanx Paua!     I lovee that cemetery and you will too!  You'll be blown away when you drive or walk through the mausoleums...it's certainly something i wasn't used too coming from Christchurch...they have the odd one here and there but to see a whole community of them is bizarre!

Unfortunately no, the office is only open between 8am and 4pm weekdays only.
Information and contact details here http://www.waitakere.govt.nz/cnlser/cm/index.asp#Office

Out of interest i looked up a person known to be in a mausoleum and they were just listed as burial with N/A [not applicable] for a plot so yes i don't think they specifically mention mausoleum as interment.

All the best for your family history gathering!  Been a longggg time since i've been to one myself!

Warm wishes

Sarndra

I think Luka Lovich is related to Joseph Douglas Lovich, Nikolai.
Three cousins came to NZ soon after my Grandfather and his brother.....
the cousins parents were Mate and Mare Anticic Lovic I believe.
I must find out more as I only have the three names from an Aunt who is now sleeping with the angels.

Luka and my Grandfather were second cousins Nikolai - their fathers Mate and Barisa were cousins.
Definitely a connection though as our Gt Gt Grandfathers were brothers!!!!
I only know of the connection thanks to this mausoleum thread!
How nice to meet up with a distant relative on rootschat  Grin
Several family members have been to Igrane and say how beautiful it is there -
and how they were made welcome by warm and loving extended family.

Do you know who rests in the Lovich Mausoleum at Waikumete Cemetery Nikolai?

Oh yes please Nikolai -
I would be most interested to see the Igrane crypt.
Any ideas on who rests there?
Can you put a photo on here?
I don't have any known connections in Tauranga -
so you may have to help me out with that??

And yes please Janette Smiley
As I'm sure they will be related - if we ever find out who it belongs to.

Hi Pauashell,

I visited the sexton's office yesterday to ask about the mausoleum and it seems records are sketchy but as far as they know the Lovich Mausoleum is still"unoccupied"I asked if they could tell me when it was built and they were going to check records and get back to me,

Cheers Janette

Thank you so much Janette!
Nikolai implied that it may be empty.....
How odd though as it looks freshly painted Huh
I will have to do some research on mausoleums.
