Booth bef and after 1810 - Completed
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 14:43 UTC (UK) »

I have Susannah Booth b abt 1810 Belleau, Lincs, her father was I think George Booth, b abt 1779 Wainfleet (hr married Frances Johnson). George's parents were (I think) Robert Booth b 1748 and Mary Thorpe b 1753. Susannah Booth m Henry Gask Walker b abt 1801 Friskney, and one of their children was Mary Walker (1835-1904) who married Edward Booth Cartwright (1839-1916 Louth, Lincs) son of Betsy Lill (1817-1874) and Edward Cartwright (1812-1896) .
I am convvinced there is another family connection here because of the recurring Booth name. Betsy's parents were Michael Lill and Sarah Chester, so no Booth's there.
I have another Susannah Booth who I know married William Cartwright 27 Feb 1811 St James Church, Spilsby. This William was the father of Edward cartwright who was married to Betsy Lill. But I can't find out anything about the Susannah Booth who was married to William Cartwright. I'm sure this would provide the link to where Edward Booth Cartwright got his middle name.
Can anyone help/advise where to go next?
Thank you in anticipation.
Regards
Jan Moon

Jan, You will find that Lincolnshire rural family history is like a great spiral, in that very many families are related, inter-related and then related again in the next generation, with many marriages taking place outside the permitted bounds of relationship!I have the surnames Lill, Stanton, Cartwright and Dawson all within my tree along with Burton and several others.I am not sure about Booth, though a cousin of mine married a Booth in 1967. There is supposed to be a connection between this family and mine other than the marriage which ended in divorce, but so far I have been unable to find it.No direct help on this one without further information, but more than willing.

Hello Redroger
Yes I am finding this and it continued after people emigrated, as my relatives who went to NZ include many marriages to other Lincolnshire people. How nice to be able to go back and find out if they knew each other before they emigrated or whether the new parts of the family being from Lincs was just a coincidence.
Thanks for your interest

I have one in the Cambridge area which was obviously an arranged marriage. When he left England he was 14, and at the time she was 4! 13 years later in 1916 she travelled alone from England to Sydney where they were married. Though the arranged marriages are well known in this village, Bottisham Cambs, getting anyone to admit it is next to impossible even after 100 years, they just clam up!

Hello again
I have a couple that I think were perhaps arranged - where widowed mother married older man and married oldest daughter off to his brother, and they all went off to NZ together - they were from Cambs, via Norfolk.
