Bad boy Balfour
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 02:04 UTC (UK) »

Searching for Walter Balfour born 1889 Kilmadock Perthshire, parents John Balfour and Isabella Stewart.

1901 census he is shown as "boy under detention" In The Gareloch at Row in Dunbartonshire.

Does anyone know anything about this place and if records exsist Huh or where I can get information.  There is a possibility that he may have emigrated to Canada at a later date. ??

Thanks as always.  patvp

Hi patvp,

Walter was onboard the HMS Empress, an Industrial School Ship. So the address is definitely correct. Grin

There are some details on this post here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/Mariners/2009-06/1244023379 The first link doesn't work for me, but the latter two do, including a photo.

Hi patvp

I think "Row" is now "Rhu", a village/town on the Gare Loch.
