Printing with HP deskjet f2235 on Puppy Linux

On the off chance that someone else is having the same problem I am using Puppy Linux and I am very pleased with it Except:-
I attempt to print out whatever and the computer does evrything except print
the programme does every thing it should but the printer does not
This is a long shot but Maybe I can get a clue

You need to find a Linux driver for the printer.  I'm afraid this is the sort of problem you get with non-mainstream Operating Systems - finding drivers for your hardware.  I'm currently trying out Windows 7 - 64-bit, and I can't find a driver for it for my Orange 3G Broadband dongle.

Getting a Linux driver for you printer should be straight foward, try here:-

http://www.communities.hp.com/online/blogs/bitsanddots/archive/2008/06/30/newsflash-new-linux-drivers-hplip-2-8-6-release.aspx

You may need to place the driver in the correct location though, which is the tricky bit.  It will probably need to be located in:

/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer

that's where mine is,  but check the Puppy Linux forums for advice on where to put the firmware once it has been downloaded.

Further to my question:
I think Hp Deskjet f2235 is in file Http/Local host :631/admin
I cant find the file you said that your printer was in
I have downloaded Foomatic HPJIS 3.94 But still no printer response

It seems that I will have to print anything I want through Windows xp
I cannot seem to get Puppy to do printing
this is disappointing as I wished to cut myself off from Microsoft

You need to check whether the CUPS demon has started at boot time.  If you go to a shell and type:

ps -ef | grep cupsd


I would go on to a Puppy Linux forum and they will help you to get your printer working.  Almost certainly someone out there knows to print using Puppy Linux using your printer.  It will be worthwhile pursuing this on a specialised forum.  It may be a steep learning curve but when you get something to work it is really satisfying.
