I have a fairly new Acer computer, running Vista. I tried to play a CD with some photographs on it and nothing happens. When I look at My Computer I can't see it there. What can I do? I should say I also tried a music CD with the same result
Thanks wini

The instructions didn't work for me. I managed to delete the CD/drive but when I restarted it wouldn't do it. I think having googled the drive which is a Mash*ta DVD-Ram UJ-8755ATA it may be faulty . The comp is still under warranty so I might have to see about finding somewhere to get it fixed.

Have you looked at the connections on the SATA drive ? SATA cables do have a nasty tendency to fall out.

O.K. I have gone into Device Manager and found list. DVD/Cd drive had a minus sign in the little box on the left. Underneath was the Matsh*ta business. It had a yellow exclamation mark on it. I clicked on that and it asked me if I had the latest driver. clicked on that and it came up that the latest driver was installed. Clicked on the DVD/CD drive and a plus sign came up but still no joy and when I go back into Device Manager it is back to having a minus sign..
I know it is most likely me and I do appreciate all your suggestions

A CD/DVD is not a SATA drive (Serial ATA) it still uses the old IDE connectors.
Sorry to split hairs, but CD/DVD drives with SATA interfaces have been available for some time now. My own PC is fitted with one
Wini, try right-clicking your CD drive in Device Manager, and select "uninstall". Then at the top of the listing, on the computer name, right-click and select "scan for hardware changes".
