looking for record of birth & death of john francis mcdermott

trying to find where john francis, who would have been my older brother is buried; he was born about 1946 in strokestown i think, and died before he was a year old. I would be most grateful if anyone could help me as I would like to visit his resting place.

familysearch have an index to Irish Civil records which covers up to 1958 -  http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

mothers maiden name is included in the index around this time which should make finding the birth a little easier.

you may have to try a few spelling variations to locate Mc names - e.g. Mc Dermott, M'Dermott etc

certs can be ordered from the GRO - www.groireland.ie using the index details from the familysearch site, when ordering a cert dont include the Film number, Digital GS number or Image number details. These are Familysearch/LDS internal reference numbers and dont apply to the Civil index books in the GRO

Just remember that Irish death certificates list place of death but not place of burial.

thank you for that information, i hope someone in strokestown
remembers my mother& father violet& bernard mcdermott from the late 40s on this forum, then it's possible that they may remember them losing my brother,and where is buried.

the john francis i am looking for would have only been a few months old as far as i know,he was born and died somewhere between 1946 &1948. i have only a tiny bit of information from my mother who passed away in 2000, and myself and my other brother where born after john francis. thank you for looking for me anyway

You can see what graveyards on the below website are in Strokestown. Put in Strokestown as your area and you will get a list of the graveyards.

If you click into each one it gives you the name of the curator or Rev who looks after each one. The best thing to do is to ring these and ask them to go through their burial records to see if John McDermott is buried there. You should probarbly start at the main Strokestown cemetery that opened in 1946.

If you check the Eircom Phonebook you should get the phone numbers there.

Hi,

The only John McDermott that i could find that was born in 1942 and died in 1942. I cannot find any John F McDermott for 1946-1948.

There was a John P McDermott who was born and died in Leitrim in 1946 a John J in 1946 in Dublin South, John J in 1948 Cavan. John J in Leitrim in 1941, John J in Longford in 1941.

The only one in Roscommon is in 1942.

Hope this narrows down your search.

There was a John Mcdermott born in Castlerea in 1947 to mother Keely.
