Hi, From sometime between 1852 and 1861 to at least 1901 Plas Dolbenmaen was occupied by the Roberts family according to the censuses. I have found Plas Dolbenmaen on the 61,71,91 and 01 censuses, do you have access? 1871 might be of interest to you as it has a Laura Roberts.
Rg10/5700 59/2 Plas Dolbenmaen, Festinog,Merinethshire.
Owen Roberts head mar 45 farmer of 40 acres ? Margaret " wife mar 45 farmers wife ? Laura " dau s 19 ? Sydney " son 13 Dolbenmaen Humphrey " son 12 " Hugh H " son 9 "
Sorry, can t quite read some places of birth. Modified..Owen born Cynnog, Margaret and Laura born Llanfihangel y Pennant.
Best wishes Cathy

Hi Linda Thanks for the link, was aware of the website ..found it last week...didn't even know there was a castle there, and visited last month, only a little grassy hill left. Was looking for all dates really just to see if there was any family link..seems there might be now!!!

hai pwtan laura Evans (nee Roberts) went to live in Penygroes, first to Prince Llewelyn Cottages, then to 17 tynyweirgodd - two sons. She was apparently quite pretty - visit gwynedd archive site and search Seattle - a relative living in that city writing letters back home and actually mentions laura herself. Her brother Humphrey was my great grandfather. Born in Plas Dolbenmaen. Have more information....

Hi Thanks for the reply, its great to know that there is somebody else related and I would love to get more information from you. Not sure if you are aware but Margaret and Owen Roberts, Laura and Humphrey's parents are buried in the church opposite Plas Dolbenmaen, next to Laura's 4 children. Do you live in the area? Regards Pwtan

Hi Not aware of the graves at Dolbenmaen - I will go there to see. Where are they in the churchyard? I live a few miles away. According to Dolbenmaen parish registers (at the archives in C'fon), Owen Roberts, farmer from Llwyngwanadl, Clynnog, son of Simon Roberts, farmer married Margaret Price daughter of Robert Price, Tyddyn Mawr on 4 October 1853. Unfortunately from what I can see there are several Tyddyn Mawrs very close to each other. However, going to the new (free) wills site on www.llgc.co.uk, I found Robert Price's will. On 13 November 1879 Laura Roberts (21), spinster of Plas Dolbenmaen, daughter of Owen Roberts, farmer, married Evan Evans 922) living at Mynydd Ednyfed Fawr Cricieth but born in Edern, son of David Evans, Labourer. What happened to Laura's two sons?

Hi In relation to Laura's 2 children; John Robert Evans (my great grandfather) worked at the quarry poss Dorothea and married Jane Lloyd, they lived at 17 Tyn Y Weirglodd, Penygroes - he was one of the founders of Bethel Chapel, Penygroes, he is buried at Penygroes Cemetary - he had 2 children Owen and John Evans - Owen was my grandfather. Owen Evans - Became a teacher and moved to Birkenhead, he married and had 1 daughter (names unknown) and he is buried in Birkenhead. They had 4 other children Owen, Jane, David and Owen and we know that Owen died of Pneumonia but have not looked into the others yet. How did you find Robert Price's will - had a look at the website last night and could not find it. I am from Bontnewydd originaly - so not far away. What became of your great grandfather Humphrey? Do you have any photos? Will have a look when I go home next to see if I have any you can see. To get to the grave of Margaret and Owen Evans enter the main gate of cemetary and follow the path, take first path to right and at the end turn right again and the grave is next to the wall, next to Laura and Evan Evans. Is your Mair by any chance?
