Hardy Kings Lynn
« on: Monday 24 August 09 22:04 UTC (UK) »

have hit a brick wall with Sarah Hardy daughter of Henry and Martha Hardy born in Kings Lynn in 1843. I can't find her or the family in the 1861 census nor can I find a marriage that might explain her "disappearance" .. she supposedly married James Noble circa 1869 and lived in County Durham for which I have the census records etc. but I have not found any marriage on Ancestry or Freebmd or Durham records online or in the GRO for a year either side.. I have tried lots of tricks but am banging my head now.. any thoughts or hints would be great. thanks.

yes she is living with her grandparents and some of her siblings.. but her parents were alive at the time and went on to have other children baptised in Kings Lynn up until 1859 .I can understand the father vanishing on returns as he was a mariner but the mother is missing in both 1851 and 1861 returns too.. I have been going round in circles on this for over a year now till my head spins.

yes that's her.. the grandparents both died of typhus in 1859 then she vanishes till the 1871 census in Seaham when she is married to James Noble.. I've trawled ancestry but no luck.. I jsut wondered if short of going through every page of Kings Lynn for 1861 whether anyone can think of a quicker way? I am beginning to think I'll have to write her off for this period which I hate doing.
thanks.

Must admit I carnt see a marriage for her to a James Noble, how sure are you that you have the right Sarah, as on the 1861 she is down as Sarah A Huh

Do you have details of the 1861 census Sarah Ann please? I've not found that one I don't think...

I have the birth certificates for their children with the surname Hardy on it as her maiden name and the census returns for 71, 81 etc with her on it with the place of birth given as Kings Lynn .. she is definately claiming to be married to James Noble in these records but I have never found it.. I do wonder if she married earlier and was a widow at the time of her marriage to him?

no worries.. thanks anyway..I am resigned to it being a mystery.. one I hope someone might solve one day .. it is strange how some families are really easy and others you could scream at!

I think she may well have done.. I have found a marraige in Durham for Sarah Ann Hardy to Richard Cooke in 1865.. may have to bite bullet and order the certificate to see father's name.. now just trying to see if he died in time..  Undecided
thanks
