Could I please have a lookup for the marriage of Benjamin Wicker of Frant to Philadelphia ?.There are a few Philadelphias in Frant.I have had the parish register films several times and somehow have missed these two marriages
Benjamin died on 25 March 1832 and I think Philadelphia then married William Molyneux at Ticehurst on 14 October 1832.
hoping to confirm that this is the same Philadelphia - I think it may be as there is a Francis "Wecker" living with the family in 1841.Does the second marriage show she was a widow?
Then I can post my next question Thanks Barbara

Hi Barbara
The second marriage 1832 to William Molineux does say she is a widow. witnesses Jas.STONE My.Ann HUGGETT. William is a bachelor
I can't find the first marriage though at the moment.

Found the first marraige but not to a Benjamin Wicker
Daniel Wicker married Philadelphia Bayley at Mayfield on 12 April 1823, botp.
Both these marraiges found on the Sussex Marriage Index

Thanks Kerry I do know about Daniel and Philadelphia.Think they may come into the picture somewhere
Benjamin and Philadelphia had children in Frant - all baptised there, one of them being my GG Grandfather John. His marriage cert says his father was Benjamin, deceased.
This means that both my maternal grandparents had the same G Grandmother - John Wicker was grandma's and Emily Molineux, William and Philadelphia's daughter was grandads Much appreciated Barbara

Perhaps Benjamin and Philadelphia didn't marry, or possibly married out of Sussex. Kent is not that far away from Frant.
Daniel died in 1830, found his burial record - 19 November 1830 at Frant notes - of Tunbridge Wells.

Yes,I thought about the not marrying, or maybe not in Sussex. Philadelphia was born in Frant according to the census,so I guess I thought she'd have married there.Would the vicar have baptised their children if they weren't married? Back to the drawing board then Thanks very much Barbara

Hi Barbara
I had a look at the Frant baptisms on the SFHG database but unfortunately Frant is not very well covered on there.
Anyway Philadelphia's baptised in Frant
1774 Philadelphia Richardson which seems a bit early
1804 Phila Carr ?? I wonder if that is a possibility as Benjamin was born 1800?

That doesn't really heop at all, there is a marriage on the SMI of a Philadelphia Carr in 1831 at Maresfield to someone else.

Thanks Kerry Shame about the Philadelphia Carr - mine is fairly consistent as being born 1803/4 on all census,so would have been likely.
They are a tricky lot, these Wickers, her son Jack said on the 1881 he was born in Tunbridge Wells (which I know is nearby) but he was born in Frant. He left his first wife and kids,by the look of it and was "boarding" in Tonbridge for many years with Fanny Piddlesden. Her daughter Lily was Grandma's mother - sometimes she is Jane Wicker on the census!! It took me ages to find a marriage for them because they had to wait for his first wife to die and that wasn't until 1888 & they married in Wandsworth. On G Grandma Lily's birth cert, which luckily she had a copy of,or I'd never have found that either, she is named Jane Wicker & she has written a note to say she has known no other name than Lily! Also the date of birth is two years out from my Great Aunt's birthday book,I did think at first it was another child, but fairly sure now it is G Grandma I didn't know about the Frant Wickers when I got the films out the last few times,so will have to get them again. Thanks again Barbara

Just thought I'd let you know, your guess was spot on Kerry – I had a brainwave and sent away for the birth certificate of Esther Molineux, the first child of Philadelphia and William Molineux born after 1837 and the Mother’s name is Molineux, late Wicker, formerly Parker.Yaaay Then onto the IGI and there is a marriage of Philadelphia Parker to Benjamin WAKER in Speldhurst,Kent. Also a birth for a PHILLY Parker to Thomas and Mary in Frant in 1804. The IGI search didn’t pick up the Philly as a variation of Philadelphia ,or the Waker as Wicker, which surprises me, maybe too different. I only found Philly by looking for other Parkers in Frant and then doing a parent search. Perhaps they have changed their search criteria? I have ordered the LDS films for Frant and Speldhurst to follow up the Parkers and Wickers, hopefully it will not be three months in coming. Now, my next question concerns their son, Benjamin and I am not sure whether to complete this and start a new topic, or continue on this one and modify the subject – thus keeping all the family together. What would you advise,(since you are more than likely to be the one who answers it?) Thanks for all your help (& have a good holiday) Barbara

Excellent news Barbara, so glad you got an answer! And so useful that all three of her names were on the certificate
I would add completed to this topic and then start a new one for Benjamin and I'm only sorry I won't be around to take part in the hunt, I really should be packing, not nipping into Rootschat
