Burrington - old parish records for HODGE and MOYSE
« on: Tuesday 25 August 09 16:15 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I'm tracing back a line of Hodge's and have a couple of queries.

Through IGI I found that:
John HODGE married Susan MOYSE - 05 JUN 1697
Burrington, Devon, England

I was wondering if the parish registers give any other hints as to their origins, as I have not found any hints to John's origins.

Regarding Susan MOYSE, there are a series of children baptised in Burrington from 1668-1687 baptised to Sebastian and Johan (Joan) MOYSE. Susan does not appear but is probably not their child as the Sebastian name runs down the HODGE line from there - I was wondering if it perhaps appears in the parish books in that period (1668-1687) but was missed/mistranscribed by IGI?

My last (and main) query is whether there are any HODGE deaths recorded in Burrington from 1697 onwards, as John and Susan HODGE had five chlidren from 1698-1709 - Ann, Thomas, John and James are unaccounted for. Sebastian, their fifth, married and died in Barnstaple.

many thanks for reading,
matt
