Crook - The Farrer's Arms
« on: Tuesday 25 August 09 19:34 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help me with info re who owned/rented 'The Farrer's Arms'  in the period 1910 - 1930?
I have tried various sites but they require a street for the address and there doesn't seem to be one but the sites don't give an option for that scenario.
Thank you in anticipation. genie

Hi

On the 1911 census index in the Auckland District which covered Crook under Farrers Arms there is the Moore family and the Williamson family.

Thank you Evie, I'll try the 1901 census with that info although neither names are what I was expecting. Thank you for your help! genie

Hello Genie. You said that you will try the 1901 census? I thought you wanted the 1910--1930?
The 1902 directory for Crook as John Kennedy as the landlord in the 1902 period.

Thank you both for your messages, I think I need to try and clarify dates better or the Clowse/Close/Clouse name that I am looking for falls between 1901/1911 census or after 1911. thanks for trying. genie.

Hi genie

Have you found your family in 1901 and 1911 census? What is their connection with the Farrers Arms?

If you are struggling to find them post what you know about them and we might be able to help

That's the trouble Evie, I don't know anything other than the possible name and that they were in that pub in the early 1900's probably about 1926-8 for sure but could have been there for years already although the Census info denies that. I suppose it is poss that they only rented a room there. I hoped that if i could get a clue I might trigger a relatives memory.
thank you for your interest and help. genie
