Hi Can anyone tell me what sort of prisoners were kept in Durham Jail in 1918/1919? I know that it is now a Cat B prison now, but was there a time when just petty criminals were inprisoned there?

The last hanging was conducted at Durham Goal 17 December 1958. It must have been a building holding the top category prisoners to at least that date and probably later.

Thanks for that info I wonder where I might obtain the jail record for someone who was definately in the prison in 1919?
