Grant family Greenock
« on: Thursday 27 August 09 10:46 UTC (UK) »

Hi there anyone out there who could make a suggestion for me on finding my Irish Grant family in Greenock? Am sersiously hitting brick walls and needing help.

My grandfather was born in Belfast in 1903 to a Julia Grant b 1878 Belfast, his name Angus John Grant.  Her father was Owen Grant mother Anne Carroll Grant. Julia had a brother Patrick Joseph born 1878.

My grandfather was adopted by Angus and Sarah McKenzie (ms Killen/Killin). But he went between the two families. I can find info on the McKenzie's and Killen's but can't find anything on the Grant family my grandfather lived with around the Dock Lane area of Greenock.

The Grants were originally from C Down - they were farmers and there were a lot of Grants from that area. His father was a Rodger Grant who died in 1861.
Hard to trace them on the Irish side. Owen appears on Belfast street directories til 1880. They then seem to disappear.

Other info I have is that Julia was a general servant in Glasgow Caledonian Railway Hotel Central Station.

1 Julia Grant on census in Greenock 1901 but she's a bit too young for my Julia.

Can anyone help.....recognise any of these Grants from their research? Grateful for any info or tips on finding them.
Maggie
