Hello Angie

Have just found the West Hagbourne website, which to my shame I had never looked at before - and I live there!

I have the book - just ask if you ever need anything looked up!

Have you seen the page or so of information about Thomas Woodley from West Hagbourne in the book "Windsor Hakebourne: the story of West Hagbourne"?

That title was a big mistake - having manned the Berks FHS stall at a number of fairs I notice that people interested in Windsor pick it up, and are disappointed. People interested in West Hagbourne don't even bother to pick it up unless someone points it out to them.

Don't let the title put anyone off - it's an excellent book!

Fantastic quality of production and content considering that it's put together by a team of volunteers from the local history group.

Yes,  I agree the title is a bit misleading,  Smiley my first thought was Windsor? that's miles away from where I'm looking... 'My' Woodley's are from around and about East/West Hagbourne so am interested in the area itself so found the site info very interesting.  My 'first' Woodley in Hagbourne is Thomas Woodley who married Mary Harwood on 29 July 1761.  If there is anything in the book KN that relates to any Woodley's around that time period I would be interested to find out about them, as I am still trying to locate the baptism of Thomas.  Many thanks for all your help everyone. Hi,

I wonder if you can help me? I am trying to track back on my family and have got as far back as Francis Woodley and his wife, Selina Ann. They married in 1875 and lived in East Hagbourne, with Francis' Uncle, John Woodley and his wife, Sarah.

Francis had a brother, William, who was 3 years older and also lived with John and Sarah. They do not appear to have had children of their won. Quite what the arrangement here was, who knows??

Selina had 9 children, 8 of whom appear to have lived beyond childhood. The youngest, Frederick, was my Grandfather. However, we are not quite sure who the father was, it does not appear to have been Francis, he seems to have disappeared from the scene and there is some question mark over a younger chap called Joseph Butler who was living with the family.

It would be interesting to know whether your lines marry up and if indeed, you have got further back that I have so far.

Regards,

Peter Woodley

Hello Peter,

Welcome to Rootschat.  Grin  I do not have an 'obvious' connection with my tree from what you have told me so far, however, my ' Woodley's' are in both East and West Hagbourne at the same time as your Francis so I feel hopeful we may be able to find one!.  I will PM you with my tree information and we can see where we go from there.

Kind regards

Angie

Hello Timothy and Welcome to Rootschat  Smiley There may well be Woodley's in Poplar, however they are not in my tree sorry.  You may have more luck if you post a new topic on the London board with details of what you are looking for.  I'm certain someone will be able to help.

Good luck with your research.

Regards
