I hope this is helpful: perhaps you know this but 'Essondale' is the name of an institution: http://www.bcmhas.ca/AboutUs/History.htm

Also 'Sapperton' is an area that part of  New Westminster, close to the River and the railway.

Hi Jan,

I found the marriage and deaths on the BC Vital Events Index so I will look them up when I am next at the library.  I also had a look for Ernest and Maud on the passenger lists and I think I found them departing Liverpool in May 1921 along with 5 yr old son Ernest and 4 yr old daughter Evelyn.  Ernest was a painter, last address in UK was 3 Randolph St, Lightbourne Rd, Moston.

I also found an entry for Ernest and Maud in 1948, he was a labourer, last address in UK 143 Randolph St Moston, Manchester - but they are crossed out so they might have taken a different ship home.  Also on the 1948 list, on another page, is an entry for E. Ambrose, age 36, railwayman, last address 3 Randolph St, Moston along with his wife, initial E. as well.

Ernest and Maud appear again in 1959, Ernest is retired, last address 3 Randolph Street.  I'll send the images to you shortly.

There are birth indexes for little Ernest and Evelyn on FreeBMD, registered in Prestwich.  I may have more trouble finding Ernest and Maud's children as the recent records here are rather restricted but I'll have a look.

Hi Lynwen,
This is very interesting,   We did know a little about Ernest & Maud, as they came to Australia on a world trip in the mid1960's.    As far as we knew they always lived in White Rock after their migration to Canada, but we've since found that they travelled back to Manchester for a couple of visits.   Those addresses for 1948 and 1959  were probably part of their visits.

Thanks for your assistance

Hi bikermickau,

In relation to your notes on the Drinkwater family in 1911 census shown as including
Christina May 3 and Vincent 1.

Wonder if you are able to assist me further, we're trying to work out where these two
children fit in?  Do we have an address for the family then?

Only daughter Florence migrated to Canada, and the rest of their family were born
in Canada.

Here is the Bowell Funeral Home record for Robert Webb Drinkwater . Both Robert and Florence are buried in the Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster.

Hi Jan - I am going to send the last of the registrations to you (Maud's death) in just a minute.  I saw avidgenie's post this morning that lists Robert's children so I looked for them in the indexes as well.  I did find a marriage for Wilfred and a Thomas C (which turned out to be Thomas L, for Leonard) but they are not his sons - the two entries list the father as Thomas Drinkwater and the mother as Edith Maud Twitty.  I thought they might be related to Robert so I looked up Thomas' death in 1946 but his father is listed as Herbert Drinkwater, mother unknown.

I can try and look up Robert's obituary to see if this gives any more information or the daughters' names.  The library closes early on Friday so I was kicked out before I had a chance to finish all my look ups!

Hi Lynwen,

Thank you so much for your assistance, it is quite strange where these two extra children fit in, i.e. Christina & Vincent.

The fact that they lived in Manchester, I suspect that they may have been another member of the family's children.

Having looked at the Bowell Funeral Home records, it is quite clear they are not named

I don't have access to 1911 Census images, so can't help you there, I was adding to Carol's comment on what she found in the index for 1911 Census.

I suggest you check the 1911 index and then pay the credit/s needed to view and copy that image.
It's odd that they would leave 2 young children behind.

Hi Jan,

I was back at the library today and checked Robert's obituary but it was exactly the same as the details on the Bowell link that avidgenie provided.  Sorry but no closer to knowing his daughter's name.  I took a copy of the obituary from the Vancouver Sun and I'll send it to you later today.

Regards,
Lynwen

ps.  I meant to add that is it possible that Vincent and Christina were not their children but niece and nephew or something similar?  I suppose the only way to know for sure is to check the census transcription.

Hi Lynwen,

Yes, I agree with you about these two children, having checked the 1881 census, I see that Robert Webb Drinkwater had two other brothers , so they could quite easily have been a niece & nephew.

I look forward to seeing a copy of the notice from the Vancouver Sun.   Wonderful information you can get from Canada, much more detailed, you could say.  Thank you so much

Regards
