Hello Rog/Scobie
I'm afraid that references for the 1851 are no good to me, I don't have access to the 1851!
I was looking at the possibility that a Avies Hearth who married William Cox on Jan 8th 1849 at St Dunstans, Stepney (from IGI's) could possibly be Avies Wilmshurst as seen in the 1841 at Maidstone, Kent as I couldn't find Avies Hearth in 1841.......it now looks like a childs birth cert would have to be acquired to find out
1861 census No 1 Court 32, Upper Tower Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire William Cox........head........30....Japonner.............Lambeth, Surrey Avies......"..........wife..........28................................Maidstone, Kent William J.."..........son...........11...............................St Giles, London James....."...........son...........9................................."................" Rebecca..."..........daur..........7................................Birmingham, Warwickshire Charles E "...........son...........4.....................................".......... ............." Avies........"...........daur.........2....................................."......................." Francis Henry "......son..........5 months........................"......................." -----------------
1851 census 37 Cromer Street, Grays Inn Lane, Pancras, London, Middlesex William Cox......head............20.......japonner...........Lambeth, Surrey Avies......"........wife..............18................................Maidstone, Kent William J..".......son...............1................................. Bloomsbury, London ---------------
Thankyou for your assistance Bryant

Hi all
I agree that Avis O'Brian is the most likely one:
1861 RG9/222 30 19 St Martin Ludgate, Middlesex 2 Horse Shoe Court Michael O'Brien, head, 31, ?Charter G P Office?, b. Ireland Avis, wife, 30, b. Kent Maidstone Alfred, son, 6, b. Surrey St George Southwark Catherine, dau, 4, b. Mddx City London John Wilmhurst do., son, 2, b. do. Henry, son, 1, b. do.
Marriage Avis Wilmshurst to possibly Michael O'Brien Mar 1854 Westminster St Margaret 1a 384
In 1851, at St George the Martyr, there's a Nurse maid born Maidstone who could *possibly* be your one (HO107/1565 438 40) with a stretch of the imagination

8 Jan 1848 Stepney William COX minor ba japanner of Stepney (John COX herbalist?) Aveis HEARTH minor spinster of Stepney (John HEARTH paper maker) wit: John COX, Allice? HEARTH
Still stuck with finding Aveis in 1841 or a baptism but paper maker could fit well with Maidstone

Thankyou Casalguidi and well done
The ages are good (both minors) and how many William Cox's who happen to have a trade of japoner marry a lady named Aveis (Avies) at the right time in history........but now the proverbial spanner has hit the works ie the father's name being John and not William although the first born son is named William John Cox!
So do I have the wrong 1841 for William and his father "John" ? is their an alternative to the family I found? time to have a look........
