renaming files
« on: Friday 28 August 09 17:20 UTC (UK) »

hi.

i tried to post a photo to the restoration section but could'nt as the kb was too high. when i eventually got the kb lower (through much gnashing of teeth,as i 'm not very technically minded) i tried again to post the photo, but was told  there is already an attachment with the same filename as the one you tried to upload.please rename the file and try again. could someone please explain in a simple langauge how i go about this.

               cheers. frustrated doch.

Hi, Doch,

Because you've already tried to upload the file then RC will see the newer version as a different file, but with the same name, so will assume it is a duplicate.

All you have to do is view the file, right click on it, and from the drop-down menu select "Rename". You can then type in a new name for your file - hopefuly one that hasn't been used before. Don't change the file type (letters after the dot) or you won't be able to open it.

For example, if your file was called "MyPicture.jpg", then renaming it to "Fredpetwalrus.jpg" or something more apropriate, would probably work.
